any new Beatle fans because of the remasters?
In the early 80's there was a 3 or 4 volume set of vinyl (sold separately) called "British blues" or something like that. It has more or less obscure British blues acts like Stone's Masonry, Savoy Brown Blues band, and of course early not-very-obs...

It is amazing how the R&B of that period sounds so much more alive than so much of its British counterparts. Take blues artists such as Slim Harpo, Howlin Wolf, Otis Rush and Sonnyboy Williamson for example. Stack them against their British bl...

Well Mapman, I think you will find the answer to this puzzle in the great repositories of record companies like chess, king, and sun, and many others. You certainly won't find any trace of it in today's popular black music. However jazz IS still a...

Yeah, I like some of the Beatles later material. I intensely dislike the early stuff.I just think there was much better rock n roll from that period, and I think their influence is blown out of all proportion. But yeah, I like them all in all.
Your First Concert was.....
The United States of America on St Marks in 1968 or so. It was awful. And LOUD!

Rja: That line made me laugh so hard I spit tea through my nose. A job well done!

Jtinn: yes, it is a bit too obtuse for most people. I think EP does something really evocative with his technique of circular breathing. When it seems he is repeating a phrase you can hear the breath subtly modulating variations that are constant ...

It is probably touchy because of the 50 or 60 beatle posts already on this site. I am so sick of the beatles! It has been beaten to death.

Mofi: There are a lot of different types of awful out there, but I bet this album isn't your garden variety. It would be interesting to hear a more in depth critique from a music lover such as yourself. If the sax comment got you then maybe you lo...

Oh I know. You will all think I am a pompous ass for holding my tastes above those of the mainstream, and (god forbid) for insulting the glorious beatles. Well, before you all chime in, all I can say is that I honestly wanted to see if anyone was ...
smokin' recommendation: Evan Parker's "TIME LAPSE"
Several years ago a composer friend of mine made fun of me for being an audiophile. His premise was that people who continually think about their equipment while they listen take their attention from the inner life of the music, and thus process m...

I have heard that they 'changed music history' so many times, but it still doesn't change anything. It is simply a case of the cart leading the horse. Critics, fans, and everyone else jumped on that Beatle bandwagon. Did they change history or did...

Most over rated group of musicians in history.
Do you ever wonder?
Yes they did. It was called "Bucktooth National", and was released on Atlantic in 1977.
