Is the most efficient speaker the best speaker?
Unsound,High efficiency speakers may(or may not) be more difficult to implement sucessfully, but fortunately there are enough of them available that it`s a viable option for many. They sure work for me.
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Knghifi, Bingo!
Is the most efficient speaker the best speaker?
Is it really necessary to achieve potentially hearing damaging levels of 100db and higher to fully enjoy one`s home audio system? I don`t believe people have to mimic ultra high and uncomfortable sound pressure if they have a reasonably quality sy...
Is the most efficient speaker the best speaker?
Ptmconsulting, that was very well said, and two good examples. Proper amp/speaker matching is a fundamental key to sucessful system building.
Is the most efficient speaker the best speaker?
Many varied factors come in to play. A well designed high efficiency speaker has the inherent advantage of increasing the pool of usable amplifiers. This opens the door for the inclusion of low power(high quality) amps such as SET,DHT-push pull, f...
Is the Accuton driver that good?
JohnK,What wideband/fullrange drivers do you find equal to or better than PHY?
Is the Accuton driver that good?
Johnk and Psag,Thanks for your personal impressions, In theory I`m drawn to simple(but well executed audio components). I love SET and other high quality low power amps(purity and natural sound). The PHY-HP with a super tweeter and minimal crossov...
Is the Accuton driver that good?
JohnK,I`ve been very interested in a speaker than uses the PHY-HP 12", do you agree with Fiddler`s opinion that the Accuton is the superior driver(more honest and neutral). My highest priority is natural tone and timbre of acoustic instruments.I`d...
Art Blakey, king of the drums.
Hi,Orpheus10, that was an enjoyable read. I admire so many jazz musicians that to absolutely say one is "best" is beyond my ability. Lee Morgan ranks among the very best of the trumpeters(I a have number of his recordings). In my case I make an em...
Is the Accuton driver that good?
Shadorne,I don`t think you read Allchemie`s post carefully. He stipulated a"good" driver(not any driver) and he`s right, a good speaker is the result of the total package, cabinet, crossover design, wire etc. A talented designer given the same part...
Cary 805s or Atma Sphere M60s?
Onemug,I`d say on average 70-85db (depends on the CD) listening levels, I find that I can also listen at 55-60db range and maintain a good sense dynamics and lively energy with very good resolution and engagement.
Cary 805s or Atma Sphere M60s?
Honest1,You`re correct, that why I limited my impressions to the Atmasphere(M-60 and MA-1) as I`m not familiar with the Joule or the Tenor OTL sound.Pubul57 neatly sums it up, it will just come down to individual preferences.
Cary 805s or Atma Sphere M60s?
Onemug,That`s very interesting, of all the maggie threads I`ve read over the years 90% of the owners say these speakers require much power(usally SS amps) to really make them come alive. Your system must sound special with this unique combo.
Cary 805s or Atma Sphere M60s?
I agree with Xronx opinion regarding some OTL amps, They certainly do have their good points, but ultimately come off on the thin and lean side of reality. I listen to live un amplified jazz quite often, and in my experience a very good SET amp ge...
Art Blakey, king of the drums.
Orpheus and Cfluxa,This is a fun and interesting discussion. Lee Morgan is one of the greats of jazz trumpet(my passion). Another good morgan solo, "I`m Old Fashion" from Coltrane`s "Blue Train". He did some very good sessions with Jackie Mclean. ...
