Solid State to replace Audio Research REF110?
Hi Bifwynne,Thanks and a very happy New Year to you and everyone as well.Charles,
Solid State to replace Audio Research REF110?
Dbarger,Hey man , yes relax! We'll all just offering opinions which are bound to differ. We all can agree there's more than one approach to handling a blown tube and its outcome. This is fun and also educational from my perspective. Obviously ARC ...

Biil,I think he's referring to the zobel network caps as well. I don't believe Israel would use bypass caps in the crossover ( I could be wrong). Sure is a big difference between the crossovers in the Total Eclipse I vs the series II. Or could bec...

I agree with Grannyring (Bill). With the premium VSF Black capacitor there's no benefit to using bypass caps, nothing to gain but something to lose (purity of sound).Charles,

Knghifi,You missed the point entirely it seems. ARC and CAT aren't the only ones who have experienced and talented designers/engineers, in my example I referenced earlier, my friend went from ARC to VAC. He strongly preferred the VAC and I agreed ...
Coincident Pure Reference Extreme
I heard the Kaiser Kawero with the Concert Fidelity components at RMAF 2011 and it was stunningly good! Very natural presentation and realistic, similar to what Coincident sounds like with proper set up. These type of speakers are the antithesis o...

Mcondon,"Then have me reaching for advil" beautifully said, I know all too well what you mean.Your description/distinction of the contrast between the speakers you mention is on the mark in my opinion. Natural vs hifi two different routes for sure...

As has been pointed out, fuse protection isn't synonymous with sound degradation (this is a faulty premise). There are excellent sounding tube amplifiers that use fuse protection and don't destroy resistors in the process.
Has anybody tried using single solid core cables?
Arcamadeus,I try to avoid all encompassing statements or proclamations as there are always exceptions.I will say I presently use solid core silver IC and speaker cables(bare wire to the speaker and amplifier terminals)and they are beautifully natu...

I will miss his wonderful talents. RIP.

I'm with Swampwalker on this issue. There are definitely tube amplifiers that sound excellent and will blow a simple cheap fuse rather than take out a resistor. I don't buy the ARC sound quality argument either. ARC is good but there's better (mat...
The future of preamps
Hi Audiolabyrinth, Al and Ralph have given you a very "clear and correct" explanation regarding your concerns. Carefully re-read what they both have written. Charles,

Grannyting, (Bill) I wish you were a neighbor of mine, it would be a lot of fun hearing each other's systems and also temporarily swamping components between the two to try out.Charles,
