Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Mcondon,In theory I totally understand your preference for the 'big established" manufacturers, they do suggest a sense of stability and confidence. It's been my experience/observation that it is the "cottage" 1 or 2 man companies who consistently...
Silver cables or copper?Any opinons.
Just to show how impressions and listening experiences differ, Mechans describes the silver character to include bright and analytical. Brands can be very different as well as system interaction factor. I use solid core pure silver IC and SC (Oell...
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
Montytx,A recurring theme with this type of topic is the detrimental effects of dynamic compression. This is often genre dependent, with popular and rock music suffering this more frequently. Jazz and classical recordings seem for the most part to...
SET vs PSET
Hi Kenny, You achieve double the power because you doubled the # of output tubes used. I believe a SET would be a fine match with your Hornings. Your speaker deserves a high quality SET that has premium quality output trandformers and very stout p...
SET vs PSET
Some well regarded examples of PSET,Audion Audio,Absolare,Border Patrol,AN UK and AN Kits,Purity Audio,Wyetech Audio,These cover a broad price range spectrum.
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
Maplegrovemusic,My experience is the same as you described. As my system has evolved, poor or average sounding recordings have clearly improved (hearing/appreciating more of the music's expression/emotion). The better recordings just became more so.
Harry Pearson
Harry Pearson with his TAS magazine was a significant influence for me during the 1990s. I offer my sincere sympathy to his family.Charles,
SET vs PSET
Jet,You are right, Kenny describes what happens to the signal (phase splitting) with a push pull circuit I believe. The stated advantage of SET/PSET is the absence of signal splitting.
Silver cables or copper?Any opinons.
G11657,I'm sure you know that there's a multitude of variables involved and answers will cover the full spectrum. Based on my experiences so far I prefer solid core silver over copper cables I've heard. I hear superior tone, transparency and overal...
SET vs PSET
This is an often discussed point for those in the SET world. Some will say the problem with PSET is getting both tubes to work in an identical manner. They say one tube does more than the other (they don't stay in a equal balanced harmony). Others ...
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Rebbi,Roxy54 has a AN kit 300b with the upgraded output transformers and Jupiter Cu foil capacitors, he loves it. I would say if comes down to how much do you want to spend? Now it becomes value at a given price point.1) Dynamo/Decware 1200.2) AN ...
Not as much activity on analog here
Rockitman, I used vinyl very heavily for over 25 years and have heard many fine analog systems along the way for certain. But really I agree, no point in another repeated debate. I just responded to your comments above and I probably should have l...
Speaker for Coincident Dragons Mk 2 ? Help.
Esstrand,I'd listen to the Legacy before buying if possible. I've heard them twice (under show conditions which can be misleading sometimes)and they were hifi sounding(maybe the associated components?). I suspect either of the Devores would work v...
Not as much activity on analog here
Rockitman,If that's been your experience with digital I can't argue with what you say you hear. My experiences mirrors Tomcy6, very good analog and digital music reproduction and enjoying both immensity (when set up well, otherwise either can soun...
Speaker for Coincident Dragons Mk 2 ? Help.
Essrand,Nice list you have put together. The Devore Silverback has a lot of word of mouth praise. What did you think of the Orangutans? Have you ruled out Coincident speakers or considered Hornings or the Acoustic Zen Crescendo? Lots of good choic...
