I’m the renegate of ZYX, my last one was copper coil Premium 4D with SB2 paired with ZYX headamp.Do you guys are aware that after 2000 hrs you will have to invest 60% more to replace your ZYX (with worn out needle) to the new one officially? Since...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@roberjerman For many years I used the Ikeda-san designed Fidelity Research FR1mk3F mc along with the Mitchell Cotter Verion P transformer. Silver coils and line-contact stylus. Superb sound and no desire to change! I have never heard a MM equal t...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Digital is the only alternative that puts us nearer to the recording and is obvious the reasons why. Raul, most of my favorite music was recorded in the studio on multitrack master tape at first, then mixed by mastering engineer and cut on lathe....
LP's... Do they sound better now than 30 yrs ago?
Good recorded vintage LPs sounds amazing, it depends on the pressing quality and your equipment. Thickness of records means nothing to me, some of the 180g reissues remastered NOT from the original tapes, but from digital source, often overcompres...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@roberjerman before copy-paste something that you may not really understand by yourself, please look at the specs of the Technics EPC-100c mk4 MM cartridge, then read what cutting/mastering engineers think about coloration of the most MC cartridge...

@harold-not-the-barrel I think you're right, this is what Van Den Hul said in the interview: "In play position, your tone arm should not be parallel to your record but at a small angle: around 3 - 5 degrees. This can be achieved by lifting the ton...

Whan i play records with original Garrott P77 loaded at 100k and mounted on Reed 3p i always ask myself why do i need those low output MC cartridges? It's a part of the hobby, curiosity in other words... The big question with the LOMC is always th...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@pryso wow, it was indeed a "great fall" in 1991, i was a teenager, my musical source was vinyl and cassettes on my dad’s Soviet hi-fi at that time. I saw the future of my country more optimictic than i see it now. But anyway you’re all welcome @l...
Cartridge Compliance Measures
Right, the most important is to convert compliance measured at 100Hz (all Japanese cartridges) to compliance measured at 10Hz (the rest of the world) if you want to know the real deal, before thinking about tonearm/cartridge matching.

Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
The original stylus of MC2000 called Symmetrical Contact Line (CLC). The moving system which comprises diamond stylus, cantilever and armature, quite natually has great influence on the cartridge’s performance capability. And it is particularly im...

@stringreen That's interesting, do you have digital microscope? Life is easier with tonearms like Reed 3p with Azymuth adjustment on the fly, amazing solution. It can be much more complicated to set azymuth on headshell with other tonearms. M.Frem...

@lewm  I just checked who is Victor Khomenko and realized he's from my home town. He was born in St.Petersburg, then emigrated to the US in 1979 — with $400, a family, no home, and no job. Here is the article.
