Best cartridge under $1500.
@cohicks4 it’s a popular question, but nobody knows your preferences in sound in your own system etc. There is always an alternative to what we have and that’s why we’re always lookign for cartridges. You have to listen to them to make your own co...
1K sleeper MC cart?
If you like Audio-Technica you can try earlier models in the ART series, i’ve been using ART-2000 and it’s a killer MC under $750. If you want something different then Fidelity-Research PMC-3 with its unique Air Core Coil is the closest to fabulou...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
We have more Technics SP-10 mkIII on the used market, more than ever in Japan. People start selling them, i've never seen so many used MK III before, amazing. I wish i could find one myself for reasonable price, hope the price will drop down soon....
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Here is a picture of my opened B1, and this is another view on this beauty. Sadly, even 2 inputs is not enough for me as i normally use two turntables with 4 tonearms (different cartridges and phono stages). On my tube amp i got remote control, sa...
Technics 1200GR Owners
@last_lemming So I got the Glanz MFG 610LX up and running today. Thanks Chakster for the recommendation. Less than an hour, but so far very impressed. Sounds very natural. Nice, if this beast is on the same level as my older and rarer Glanz MFG-...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
@dgarretson  I expected to hear sonic trade-offs, with the passive winning on treble resolution & overall sonic purity, and the active winning on dynamics and LF control. In actuality the hybrid buffered approach won on every point. As a resu...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
@georgehifi not sure how anyone can judge by the picture (and it’s a bit off topic), but the picture of WLM you have posted is unfinished unit.1) This is the actual picture of my WLM Phonata made when i opened it to upgraded load resistors to Vish...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
@clio09 I have various phono stages, but Austrian (out of production) WLM Phonata Reference and new Australian JLTi is what i use the most. Funny, but the cabinet of my JLTi prono stage looks exactly like the cabinet of the Lightspeed device.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Great thread, i'm on it. Well, i want to read an opinions from the users of both products like First Watt B1 buffer preamp (original, not a clone) and Lightspeed Attenuator with analog source only (not digital). After years of using several tube p...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
@downunder Does it really matter. All our tables in 20 years will be worthless as nobody will be buying any physical media or players. Oh, i’m waiting for this to buy all my favorite records from the 60s and 70s for $1-5 like it was in the 90s wh...
jan Allaerts cartridges mc1b
@nandric thanks, i should get my FR-64FX with heavy counterweight next week, i already sold my Lustre GTS-801 to a friend locally. I like FR-7f cartridge and i want to use it on FR tonearm, at least i need to hear this combo. I also like my Fideli...
jan Allaerts cartridges mc1b
@rauliruegas i have no idea about Allaerts cartridges, they are out of my budget for sure, but if @bonzo75 considering superheavy FR64 then FR64FX is just the same but with a bit lighter mass. I bought this 64FX not so long ago for my FR7f cartrid...
jan Allaerts cartridges mc1b
@bronzo75  I will also be using a Miyajima zero for mono, and some alternate cart like EMT or Decca, and need a second arm, so will look for an fr64 for that. You can also look for FR64FX (Black one).
Gotta love Nelson Pass
@georgehifi I ended up with original First Watt B1 buffer preamp instead of the old and more expensive Aleph L preamp for a double price. Hope it was the right move, my speakers are 101db. Gonna get it tomorrow from the postman. Can't wait to chec...
Gotta love Nelson Pass
@georgehifi There was 2 versions of Aleph L preamps and only one of them works as you have described above. Versions distinguishable by how many wires go up tothe volume control – 6 wires = early version, more than 6 = later version.
