Best cheapo Cartridge
@agrippa If I remember correctly (seldom a given), the 110 and 150 share a body, as do the 200 and 300, while the body of the 500 is further improved. Nagaoka trademark called Jeweltone in Japanjust like JVC called Victor in Japan (different trad...
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review
@lewm I apologize if I came down on you too hard for recommending the AT ML170, but I confess I am a bit tired of reading about its wonderfulness. The OP wants to talk about the Enabler, per se, which seems at least to be cost-effective. Sorry fo...
Best cheapo Cartridge
For that to be true the AT-ML170/180 would basically have to be the best cartridges ever made, by some margin, as to my ears the 150MLX/Sa are both reasonably close to being state of the art. Maybe they are just that, as I've never heard either...
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review
@lewm  If the OP switches to the Hana, which is said to be excellent by those who have heard it  I've heard a dosen of MC cartridges made by Excel Sound Corporation, from low to high output with 3 different cantilevers. Even the old prototype of ...
Best cheapo Cartridge
I’ve heard/auditioned a good number of Koetsu, Kisekis, Miyajimas and whatnot up through the years and frankly my ART9 gives them all a run for the money. Yes, it’s exactly $1k cartridge, considered cheap MC compared to ART1000 for example (or to...

I am really sold on buying a Hana SL to replace it as it (the Koetsu) must need refurbishing. Why don’t you just buy a high resolution neutrail MM cartridge for your tonearm ? At least you could compare two different worlds of sound. The Koetsu B...
What is the life of a Grado Wood cartridge?
@vinowino The grado website said I can expect 5000 hours. I do not see any reason why this should not be the case.Really? What stylus type then ? Secret weapon ? If the record has been cleaned properly (I mean wet and vacuum, not wiped with cloth)...
advice for mono cartridge
@lewm  Yes, the Miyajima MC is a true mono in total oldschool way (japanese style), but this is not the only cartridge on the mono market, especially if we will add some nice vintage true mono MM.  I've been reading so much about serious advantage...

Isn't the original Koetsu Black is the most dark souding cartridge in the whole Koetsu line ?
advice for mono cartridge
I will add some spices:1) New mono cartridges from respected manufacturers have vertical compliance, they do not act like oldschool mono with latheral compliance only.  Why ?2) New mono cartridges have the best styli with most complicated profiles...
Best cheapo Cartridge
Cheap modern MM cartridges is like listening to music with a blanket on each speakers. A waste of time in high-end system. Much better to pay more for a decent vintage MM if you really want to find out what this technology is all about. What is "c...
Best cheapo Cartridge
If you want something very special with huge potential over your expensive MC then look for vintage MM cartridges with the best cantilevers and styli. This is the best performance for reasonable price, none of the modern MM can compete with Audio-...
advice for mono cartridge
Not many mono experts here as i can see. Here is more about mono cartridges in the article by Art Dudley. Only the cheapest mono carts have conical tip for mono, most of the high-end mono have at least elliptical or line contact. What i can se...
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer?

Re-tipped phono cartridges
Even if a certain cantilever and cartridge is not produced anylonger there are many of them on the market, even unused samples (perfectly working). So many good ones under $1k, sometimes we can win a $500 NOS cart with Diamond cantilever (like Dyn...
