New Gold Note PH 10
Interesing @slimpikins5 What i’ve noticed about my Gold Note PH-10 is a lack of bass slam compared to my WLM Phonata Reference (a mosfet phono preamp). Actually i feel the lack a bass using all phono stages in comparison with WLM Phonata with what...
Vinyl/TT Gurus Chime in! Cartridge Decision: Rework My old Sumiko or get a new cartridge?
Peter at SoundSmith is not recommending not only a HOMC, but even a LOMC because of the high moving mass, his lecture is here. He clearly prefer an MI cartridges. You can imagine how many different cartridges have been cracked and fixed at SoundSm...
Vinyl/TT Gurus Chime in! Cartridge Decision: Rework My old Sumiko or get a new cartridge?
The re-built cartridge will likely sound a bit different, but certainly as good or better than anything you can pick up for $600 new. A retipped HOMC is still a HOMC.High Output Moving Coil cartridges are inferior by default compared to LOMC (L...

I have an old moving coil Denon 103, it’s a little dark for an MC, but the midrange is killer. My other favorite is the Nagaoka MP-11 Boron, which to me sounds almost exactly like the Denon. Maybe for certain genre of music, or maybe in a horn...
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
It is a pity not to be able to know the mass of the arm to correctly interface the cartridge; are you able to know this? @best-groove Since it was top of the line SONY tonearm along with PUA-9, you can look at the Sony cartridges specs for compli...
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
No problem, but i understand why someone willing to change the arm, even in terms of design i can understand that (not only sound quality). The Reed is so much better than any Technics arms including the EPA-100 which was my main arm before i repl...
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
Actually, Reed would be nice, this is the most versatile tonearm for the most critical setup, but it's expensive. The benefit of the Reed is that you don't need a hole in the armboard, except for the 3 short mouting screws from the top.   https://...

Personally, I prefer the conical stylus from the MP-10 for my vintage jazz Micro-groove LPs. Why?I always prefer MicroRidge or LineContact for my vintage LPs.Nagaoka cartridges are overrated, there are much better carts from the same era.P.S. ...
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
You can look at the arm from the top to figure out how much the new arm can be moved within the armboard area. If it’s too far then maybe it will be impossible to use dust cover, counterweight can be out of the Technics plinth. So it depends on ea...
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
YES. I think 225-230mm P/S distance is the limited factor in choosing new arm for Technics SL1200GR Technics stock arm has 225mm P/S distance.
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
No, if you're lookimg at pivot to stylus distance then you have to deduct the overhang. You need pivot to spindle distance.

Norman, thanks. Now i see this version, interesting, never seen before, wow.  Another reason why vintage is better, new versions with 3 digits number does not have Boron version for lower models.
Tonearm for Technics 1200GR
You have to measure pivot to spindle distance and think about new custom armboard for any toneam you wish to mount instead of the stock arm. Not every arm can be mounted on this turntable.

@normansizemore Nagaoka MP-11 does not have a Boron cantilever, it's the cheapest Nagaoka in MP series, the cantilever is aluminum, read more about this model: https://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/nagaoka_mp11_e.htmlVintage MP-50 has Boron cantileve...
Ortofon TA 210 vs Jelco 750
I do not retip cartridges, i'm buyin' another sample or different cartridge. Retipping or refurbishing rare vintage cartridges by someone else is not what i like. The SoundSmith are not low compliance (my recommendations here are about low complia...
