Anybody out there re-cantilever their cartridge with a Soundsmith Contact Line diamond ?
When I posted my sample to Axel he installed an new boroncantilever and his ''nude Shibata'' instead of this ''remarkable''ZYX cantilever. Why do you think that this way of installing thestylus is better than usual? Or, to put this otherwise, wh...
12-1/2" arm. NewArtVinyl Black Bird. Yea or Nay?
Maybe when I am 75, I’ll get one!https://www.artisanfidelity.com/tonearms/ikeda-it-407 Yes! I’m not even 45, but it was impossible to resist. Very rare in matte finish , not CR version (i don’t like the mirror finishing, to be honest).
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth
@uberwaltz You’re extremist, lol The mass of Black Widow tonearm is less than 5g as far as i know.I would never do that myself, i’d rather put a cartridge with compliance figure 4 times higher than 8cu. I think this arm designed for very high comp...
best phono stage under 10k
If you're using low impedance cartridge (under 5 Ohm) then current injection type of the phono stage can be the best ever. The recommendations above are all about traditional phono stages. Search for CURRENT INJECTION instead, they are unique and ...
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth
At the same time so many users that have no idea about tonearm/cartridge resonance are happy with their Denon 103 (5cu @ 100Hz = about 8cu @ 10Hz) on 11-13g tonearms instead of 30g tonearms. They are all over audiogon, lol It seems like the questi...
Anybody out there re-cantilever their cartridge with a Soundsmith Contact Line diamond ?
@jsbail Are you saying I can get a better sounding cartridge for $450 than I will get back from Soundsmith? I understand it will not sound identical the original, but I expect it will sound great. Why wouldn’t I do this? This is the reason why i...
Stax Long Tonearm UA-70 Yea or Nay
For Stax you need to drill aditional hole in the armboard just for the armrest. This is the reason i have ignored the arm (and all arms that require additional drilling). Staz headshell is very nice, it has azimuth and overhang adjustment.Make sur...
High-Output MC cartride with "MM" Phono Stage
Any MM phono stage must be OK with 2mV cartridges. But a High Output MC is always inferior to its LOMC version, because with higher output there is more coil wire and higher moving mass. You'd be better with MM or MI cartridge if your phono stage i...
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC with Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge vs.Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon Esprit S
Also, what is a mc cartridge? LOL :) Well, MC cartridge is Moving Coil Cartridge with very low signal output that your MM phono stage simply can’t handle, so you need a Step Up Transformer to use an MC cartridge (or an expensive phono stage with ...
Pick my next tonearm....PLEASE
Finding a good tonearm around $1500 (used or new) is almost impossible. I don't think so, look for:-Technics EPA-100-Lustre GST-801  -Victor UA-7082  just to name a few very nice tonearms that you can probably find under $1500
MC cartridge loading: still baffled
Anti-skating force depends on the stylus profile too, with advanced profiles it's never equal to the tracking force, normally lower. I remember VdH interview and his thought about it. Regarding the loading just buy a phono stage with optional load...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
@totem395  Hey, this is yours ? I've seen it online before, also very good for a new plinth. But my idea is to refresh the original plinth first with new veneer or some decent paint
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
VICTOR CL-P2D PLINTH for 2 tonearms was quiet expensive in 1981, nearly 40 000 Yen in Japan. Must be OK ? Double arm cabinet developed for TT series turntables. The structure which laminated the beech wood and the high-density particle board whic...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Yeah...nice finish Chak 😃It may be hard to obtain on the existing veneer....?Maybe a car body and paint-shop? I decided to try, maybe both methods (new veneer one one plinth and paint on another). What i don't like on original Victor plinth is ...
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth
@larryi same on modern Hi-Fi News TEST LP, but without instruments, just tone.
