Going old school
I found out that you cannot just get a player with 3 (or variable) speed settings as you require specialized cartridges. you need Technics Direct Drive SL1200GR if you want to play 78 and 33/45 on the same turntable with ease. A specialized car...
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
3mV is not high output even for MMFor MC a high output is something like 1.7mV (but such MC carts must be avoided). People who’re using a high output MC do not understand that high output = coil winding and higher moving mass. LOMC with 0.2 - 0.5 ...
Who Has the New Top Technics SL1200GRE? Does it blow your other expensive tables away?
does anybody have any replacement styluses for the Pickering XSV 3000 cartridge for sale? lol @tzh21yIn 2019 I sold one NOS here, but instead of XSV/3000 you can buy XSV/4000 (still sealed cartridge) or something else from Stanton/Pickering famil...
Beogram 4002 conversion - sounds good
Why do you need all the mods if SoundSmith was the manufacturer of B&O cartridges under contract, they can fix all those old B&O cartridges today. You will have to ship them to N.Y.C.
What is affected ?
"If a low compliance cartridge is used with a low mass tonearm, undesirable resonances can occur in the audible range. Mistracking may also be a problem. When a high compliance cartridge is mated with a moderate mass tonearm, resonances in the infr...
re-tipping Dynavector17D?
Chak, All I am suggesting is that a newbie doesn’t get much help from the idea of finding and buying a rare vintage cartridge for his or herself (rare not only in type but also to find one in excellent condition with a good suspension). Maybe it’s...
re-tipping Dynavector17D?
Chak, you frequently recommend the 17D2. As you know, it has been superseded by the 17D3, more than a decade ago or even two decades ago, and even the 17D3 has been discontinued and replaced by the 17DX, a current model that can actually be purcha...
Looking for tonearm inspiration
Check Reed 3p is you want one the best modern high-end tonearm, they are available in "9, "10.5 and "12 inch with different wooden armtube. Fully adjustable (including azimuth on the fly). And you can find desirable mass. This is beautiful looking...
I cannot say enough about the KAB Concorde STY40 combo
Technics reference turntable SP1000R was first introduced with Audio-Technica reference ART-1000 cartridge on the show. Now there is an Ortofon on it. Probably because the AT ART-1000 is over $5k cartridge
High or Low output MC cartridge?
"Given two MC cartridges of (seemingly) equivalent specs, which might perform better? The High or Low output cartridge?"I'm getting the sense that Low is preferred. And as I have an appropriate headamp, that's not a problem. Definitely! LOMC
Stylus shape?
That is how you learned fromyour older brother wich one to buy (grin). It is truep.s. I feel that everyone is older here :)
Looking for tonearm inspiration
Denon DA-301 (a better choice for mc cartridges than the DA-401). DA-301 is easy to find while the DA-401 is very rare. You’re right, the DA-401 is ideal for mid or high compliance MM/MI, some MC cartridges also can be used as you can see on this ...
re-tipping Dynavector17D?
This is my ex 17DS under macro lens, it’s very rigid construction. If your stylus is off then re-tipper can only glue his new tip to the cantilever, it will never be as rigid as the original construction. Another problem is a cost of re-tip, becau...
Stylus shape?
Well, Nandric always referring to MC design. But MM/MI cartridge manufacturers often making one cartridge with different styli (user replaceable), on the same cartridge body the advanced stylus profile will be better. Ortofon did it, Grado did it,...
High or Low output MC cartridge?
Never buy a High Output MC cartridges if you want Moving Coil at its best. If you need high output buy MI or MM cartridge. If you have proper MC phono stage buy ONLY low output MC
