Speakers for Classical Music Classical music lovers tend to enjoy a British sound as a group. The Spendors and ATCs for example, have very nice voicing for strings and vocal. They tend not to play real loud nicely, but what they do produce is extremely musical. Also, I've fall...
Suggestions for mini-system -- 300-400 Brian, This is easy. DMC Electronics offers on this site an NAD L-40 factory reconditioned unit for $360. I own one. Paired with some used Paradigm Atoms or something similar this will rock. Lovan offers some 24" stands found online for $55. The D...
Integrated for Dad Must second the Audio Refinement recommendation. Very musical, strong current delivery and just plain well built. YBA has done their homework.
How much money do you want to waste? And as we classically know, there is absolutely no aeronautical reason why bumble bees can fly....but they do.
What's the best digital cable around 100 each? Viggen, I run the LAT powercords/interconnects and they make an excellent product. Not so well known, but I've run thema against more expensive and they do very well. Be happy they don't cost a fortune.
Help me with the last item in my new system Might be able to find Analysis Plus used in an 8' increment for about $200. Audio Magic for the digital cable.
Record Clamp for Thorens TT Whatever happend to the plastic German made spider thing costing $30? It worked great.
Best speakers for a small room? 10'X14' The Maggies won't work. Period. Try the Coincident Triumph UHS. $1200 and you're in. I've owned many pairs of speakers to include several highend British brands and I've fallen in love with Coincident. Unknown giant killer.
Speaker Mods? Would tend to agree with Milo. Leave the drivers alone. Look inside the cabinet for opportunities to upgrade. If electrolytics are used, replace with polypropylenes of equal value, improve wire internally and stuff corners with cord weather stripp...
Is my dealer lying to me? Gunbunny, To quote the marketing people at Dodge, "The rules have changed." Spending lots was the rule. Now, some budget pieces have really caused havoc in the realm of big ticket items. I just picked up a pair of Axiom M3 Ti speakers for a second...
Upgrading my NAD C340. One of the Antique Sound Labs in this price range would be excellent.
New format players the future? Yes and no. I believe SACD will die. Not enough software support and that has always been the key. Remember prerecorded DAT, Elcassette and Philips DCC? That's an incomplete list.
Should Speakers come first in a gradual upgrade? The Swampwalker response is the correct response. When improvement occurs with source then it follows throughout the system. Better source will enable the speakers to image better, improve attack and even provide a more solid bottom end. I like th...
Trying to keep parents out of Circut-City Agree with the Creek and would even endorse the B&Ws if I didn't know about the Axiom M3 Ti. Outrageous 2 way which I promise will outperform the 303s. OEM manufacturer for many, they decided to go it themselves also. Website is axiomaudio.com...
Rega Planet---Upgrade time--Which way to go? Don't give up on the Planet. It is solid and can be upgraded simply. New powercord, some Ensemble cones and good stuff will happen. Love the deck and the Proac 2.5s. Can't love the Krell but it is quick. |
