Notable very small loudspeaker companies (other than Tekton!) Bache Audio has to be on this list. I am a long term (10+ years) Merlin owner who just replaced my VSM's (VSM-mme with custom Master Bam and Master RC's) with a pair of Bache Audio Metro 001's. I can say without hesitation that the Bache Metro 0...
Sophia EL34-ST Tubes In my Unison S6 they are a huge improvement over the Tung Sol EL34's that came with the amp. Timbre, tonal and image density, soundstage - all improved over the stock tubes.
Opinions Please - New Prodduction Sophia EL34ST Coke Bottle The Sophia EL-34-ST tubes are a revelation in my Unison S6 - easily 60%-70% better than the Tung Sol EL-34B's the amp came with in every meaningful parameter. The Sophias marry the bloom and sweetness of NOS tubes with modern frequency extension ...
Tube integrated Suggest you take a look at the Unison S6 which was Stereophile "Class A" and has received nothing but 5* reviews (check online). Based on my listening it is on a different level from any of the "usual suspects" (e..g., Cayin, Prima Luna, Jolida, ...
Integrateds: Why do they all SUCK? I have two outstanding integrated amps (both were Stereophile Class A stock) that I would not trade for any combination of separates that I've heard. My Pathos TT RR has upgraded capacitors (Mundorf Silver-Gold-Oil) and resistors (Audio Note). I h...
Interested in Members' Experiences with Rectifier Tube Rolling in Modwright PS 9.0 and 9.9 I've tried the RCA 5R4GY with the light brown base. It was not in the same league in the Modwright PS 9.0 power supply as the Phillips 5R4GYS, RCA 5U4G black plate, and Mullard GZ32 5V4. I will post the results once I've tried the Tung Sol.
Warm, rich sounding interconnects? Chris Johnson at Parts Connexion can make finished cables for you (or you can do it yourself) out of the new Dueland tinned copper wire from Parts Connexion - DCA16GA or DCA20GA for interconnects; DCA12GA for speaker cables. See Jeff Day's artic...
Gutwire Perfect Grounding Cable I didn't have a hum issue. I have been reading reviews of grounding boxes (e.g., Entreq) for several years and wouldn't try them because of the cost. Since the effects of the Gutwire cable described in the review sounded similar to the improveme...
Tweaking my Merlin VSM-Mme's "Master" BAM with Jupiter capacitors (instead of Dueland) is a big improvement over the Super BAM - lower noise floor, better dynamics, more natural tone. etc. "Cooked" it for 48 hours with the Hagerman Fry Baby 2, but the capacitors will requir...
Tweaking my Merlin VSM-Mme's Rich Brkich at Signature Sound recently upgraded my Super BAM to Master specification including the Cardas Clear wire, but I had him install the Jupiter capacitors instead of the made for Merlin Dueland VSF variant. It is in shipment to me so ...
Has anyone heard new Less Loss C- Mark power cable? I previously owned the Lessloss DFPC - Original and Signature versions. I did not try the Reference. To my ears the DFPC's, while good cables, were more like the Cardas Clear Beyond than the C-MARC -organic, musical, resolving cables but ultimat...
Has anyone heard new Less Loss C- Mark power cable? Had it on the Hagerman Fry Corder for four days which left it sounding quieter and more relaxed without losing anything in terms of dynamics and speed. It is a keeper - the best power cable I've had on my Modwright PS 9.9 power supply and very cl...
Tweaking my Merlin VSM-Mme's Chris charged me $75.00 for the four jumpers made from Dueland DCA16GA and $180.00 for the pair of RC Networks with Jupiter Copper Foil, Paper and Wax capacitors. In both cases there was a $60.00 termination fee. If I was skilled with a solderin...
Improving the Sound of the Merlin Super BAM If you unscrew and remove the BAM end plates and cushioning foam the battery and capacitor boards (which are connected by wires and therefore must be removed together) just slide easily out and back in. I put VTS Tuning Dots and WA Quantum chips ...
Has anyone heard new Less Loss C- Mark power cable? In my experience, with my system, power cords make a clear audible difference. I have therefore ended up with the power cord that sounds best with each component after many years of trying different cords. This has not turned out to be the same ... |
