Benchmark Dac1 - next step recommendations please
One approach would be to improve your DAC. I think you should consider the Audio Horizons TD 3.0 DAC ($2250), which can be obtained on a 30 day trial basis. It's a wonderful performer. You can find it advertised here on Audiogon. I've used the TD ...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
A couple of days ago I attempted to start a thread for commenting on the Audio Horizons TD 3.0 DAC (digital forum- "Audio Horizons TD 3.0 DAC comments"). The thread received no comments. Since I asked for pros and cons and received neither, I wond...
HDMI to DVI Cable
Ryder,I faced the reverse situation and found that the DVI to HDMI interface allowed the benefits of better video transmission. Improved audio transmission was not possible, however. I imagine that the HDMI to DVI interface will yield the same res...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
As Gammajo notes, safety is one very good reason to leave a cover on the preamp (or any electronic device with 120V running into it). Joseph has told me about another benefit of keeping the cover on the unit: it helps the signal to noise by minimi...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Grannyring,A friend bought some myrtle wood on Ebay and cut the blocks for me.
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
My impression (no science here) is that the myrtle wood is particularly good at draining vibration off and away from the audio gear. My audio shelves are suspended from the wall. I can jump next to them and not disturb a turntable playing. For thi...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Gammajo,I use mytle wood blocks under the Audio Horizons DAC and preamp. It is decidedly better than a softer isolation material. The myrtle wood benefit is a lower noise floor.
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Grannyring,If by tube dampers you mean flexible rings that can be rolled down over the tubes to quiet vibrations due to heat and signal then, yes, I do use them with both the preamplifier and the DAC. I was surprised to hear that the rings do impr...
Truely Balanced Pre Amps
The Audio Horizons, TP 2.0 has balanced circuitry.
Joule, Blue Circle, CAT SL1
Richard,You can test the Audio Horizons preamp in your system under the 30 day trial policy. I use the Audio Horizons TP 2.0 preamp through Coincident Super Eclipse MK III loudspeakers, which are not warm sounding loudspeakers. The TP 2.0 delivers...
Audio Horizon Preamp
Kensetsu, the anonymous Audiogon reviewers to whom you refer need not remain anonymous. You can contact them and discuss your questions about the preamp with them. Try the products yourself. Afterward, you may have a different opinion than mine ab...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
The preamp has a 30 second turn on delay. It sounds good almost immediately. It does not run hot even after long periods. However, like all audio gear I have heard, it does sound better when it reaches stable operating temperature.
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
I continue to use and to enjoy my TP 2.0nB preamplifier. No trouble with the preamp at all. I think it is a great value.Perhaps you will enjoy the process of upgrading the preamplifier. I went for the fully upgraded version at the start, including...
Most Quiet TUBE Preamp. Linestage. $ 12K or less
The Audio Horizons TP 2.0nB, a balanced tube line preamplifier, has superb signal to noise level in each channel. My unit is -115 dBv or better. It's musical, relatively inexpensive (~3K), and you can try it in your own system before committing to...
FLAC vs. MP3 for Sonos Network
I agree with Horseface about choosing the FLAC format. Initially, I chose WAV format but have discovered that I gave up a lot of available tagging information. One disadvantage of FLAC is that FLAC is not read by Windows Media Player. However, the...
