Here's a 5 minute video introduction on the workings of the human ear. Who'd have guessed that the thickness of the tympanic membrane is on average one 700th of a millimetre?
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
@audiodwebe  And those reviews, at least to me, carried some weight simply because I didn't have access to anything other than those reviews. No stereo shop near me ever carried much other than mid-fi and lo-fi stuff.  And that is precisely why I...
AUDIO SCIENCE REVIEW and $50 to spend.........
@amir_asr Do have a few topics to cover though so will definitely post new ones, one way or the other.   Good to hear. I'd like to see you cover more headphones in future. Particularly portable ones with or without Bluetooth.
How do you find time to enjoy your $$$ speakers and system?
@analoguefan As you say, time seems to be in short supply for some of us these days. I sometimes joke to my wife that I think I'd be better inside a prison left alone with my HiFi and a collection of books.   I try to tend to snatch an hour her...
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
@moonwatcher  With 15% to 20% of people affected by it, you’d think there’d be some financial payoff in finding a cure.   I would never have guessed that the percentage was as high as that, but after reading the posts above I can now believe it...
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
@alerrico  The one and only NAD 3020A back in the 70's.  Was the start of you can get quality without all the fuss from NAD.   Of course! I can't believe that I've somehow forgotten about the first amp I bought! I got mine in the mid 1980s ...
Beatles vs. Stones
@dz13  You dedicated follower of fashion, you. Nowadays it's a little too easy to forget that the UK had so many great bands back then. The Beatles, the Stones, the Animals, the Who, the Hollies, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Herman's Hermits, the ...
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
The original Rega Kyte bookshelf speakers that were £200 sometime in the early 1990s. If it wasn't for their lack of bass I'd still be using them. They had such natural timing and coherence that they made most others at the time sound somewhat m...
top ten things you learned about HiFi on Agon
@mitch2 1. Audio is a fun hobby; just don’t take it too seriously, 2. music trumps equipment, 3.hype should be treated with a proportional amount of caution, 4. many excellent products never make the Stereophile Recommended Products list, 5. for...
Buzz from mouse in speaker
@czarivey  I use Lenovo Q190 2012 model. It was made actually as a streamer, because it's DEAD quiet and has SSD to make it even more quiet.  Recently installed W10, because W7 not in support anymore.   We've got some small booksized Lenovo ...
Buzz from mouse in speaker
@dundeyr  My best guess is that the source of the problem is coil whine from the motherboard. i have tried replacing the PSU to no effect.  I think you're right. Some Asus motherboards do exhibit this kind of behaviour, and no doubt other makes...
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
Reviewers exist primarily to promote product. Really? I used to review a bit, and have known many audio reviewers. I can’t think of a single one who thinks of themselves that way, or who approach their reviewing just to promote a product. Does...
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
Reviewers exist primarily to promote product. I can hardly think of a single review which came close to describing what I later heard in person. [OK, Alvin Gold reviewing the Ruark Prologue ll's, but even there he forgot to mention their sibilanc...
Name 3 songs where audio quality and song quality completely align
@vitussl101  Stop purchasing audiophile rated music and buy what you like.  You're saying that you can't do that?  Sheesh!   Ah, but that's the great Catch 22 of audio! The more money you pour into this hobby the more better you expect your m...
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
@terraplane8bob I recall posting a reference to a thread about "simple tweaks" to our systems and mentioned one of the easiest tweaks for people who normally wear glasses was to simply remove them ! Apparently the idea is still met with derision...
