How do you A/B amps in your system?
I leave the main amp in place, put the new amp in the floor in front of it and hook it up.  I listen for multiple days unless it isn't really close.  I always do ABA unless it is obvious.  Somtimes ABABA. Jerry
I am checking out these DAC's for my system
If you’re just going to have a digital system, you can probably lose the preamp. Don’t worry about a popular DAC being available used. Popular items have more sales so there are more used available. this is a win for you. Don’t worry about tube ...
BS meter is pegged!
I think a lot of the BS is created by non-technical people taking the technically correct system description and converting it to marketing lingo. then it gets converted at least once more as the reviewer restates it. I remember an exercise I did ...
Enjoying the Original Music Streaming Format - Analog FM Stereo
I went to college in the late 70s (University of Chicago). We basicly had 2 choices then, LPs or FM. (One kid had reel to reel, and cassete tapes were just happening). I lived in a dorm that was a converted hotel overlooking lake Michigan (The Sh...
NEW Tekton Design Speakers - The Bonnevilles
@deep_333 I don’t think he has such razor thin margins when it gets to the bottom line. He makes the speakers to be 98% function over form. He builds them to sound good first, and keeps the form simple and paints them himself with relatively inexp...
Tidal or Qobuz
@sfpeloton human nature will make people say the one they like sounds best. This is an old thread.  Since I posted before, Tidal has changed owners and may no longer be pushing rap on all of the subscribers. Jerry
AB testing of power regenerators?? Ever do it?
@emergingsoul No, I made a decision to go with a regenerator because I think power conditioners are mostly useless and can indeed do more harm that good by limiting current. there are lots of different gizmos called "conditioners". In general the...
AB testing of power regenerators?? Ever do it?
I'll add that since I have a scope to measure the quality of the incoming power, I check it occasionally, and it doesn't vary much.  Rignt now it is 3.0% distortion (that is a measure of the departure of the incoming sine wave to a perfect 60 Hz s...
NEW Tekton Design Speakers - The Bonnevilles
Good to see the Tekton haters are still thriving here but also nice to see the Tekton supporters aren't afraid to post like ther were a few years ago. Jerry
AB testing of power regenerators?? Ever do it?
@emergingsoul the PP10 has a built in oscilloscope.
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
@devinplombier I agree with most of your thoughts above. I assume by "variable" resistor, you mean that it changes depending on what current rating it is.   I will explain that the SDFB is basicly a relay with a magnetic current switch to open it...
got my PayPal 1099 /// what now?
Something that hasn’t been said here that might help clarify it for some: You are not a business. the tax law was not meant for you. It was designed for those who make their living by reselling on ebay. Have a garage sale and resellers will show ...
got my PayPal 1099 /// what now?
I found the IRS guidance on how to file this 1099-K.  Looks like there is a spot for it on form 1040.  And if you took a loss, you don't get to write it off.  As we thought.  https://www.irs.gov/businesses/what-to-do-with-form-1099-k#:~:text=On%2...
got my PayPal 1099 /// what now?
@ozzy A copy of the 1099 goes to the IRS.  I would file an amended return, othersize the IRS will have $7k of unresolved income and you will get a letter.  Jerry
AB testing of power regenerators?? Ever do it?
I’ve done A/B testing over the years with various amps. Some benefited greatly, some didn’t. It depends on how tolerant the power supply is to poor quality power. Now I just use it for all my components and don’t worry about it. Jerry PS  the po...
