BEST PHONO STAGE FOR UNDER OR OVER 1GRAN
He said "just" over a grand, not several grand. If we're talking several, then the Aesthetix Io, and then the Jeff Rowland Cadence phono in second place.
The best CD player with volume control
No offense, Richie, but I'd have to hear for myself, in my system. I'm very doubtful of your claim, unless it upsamples. Who makes this BIDAT? Bring yours by, if you're ever in the southeast. STEVE, yes, trust your ears. If it's not dynamic or "ri...
Best used Amp under $2000 for CD-50
With all due respect to you, Alvin or Alfred, I doubt you've even tried the Krell 250a, so how could you possibly know for sure? In any case, I would say your Energy speakers are the weak link, and would likely make all but laid back amps analytic...
Gold CDs sound Darker?
I don't think there's too much of a difference. It might be less of an improvement for gold ones, but it's hardly perceptible. Maybe fractions of a percentage point of the difference, for what it does with aluminum. (Realize that what's happening ...
The best CD player with volume control
The Resolution Audio CD50 soundly and wholeheartedly beats EVERY one-box, direct-amp-drive, red book-CD-only player under $10,000 that doesn't upsample (Levinson 39, Wadia 830, 850, 860). The CD50 won't be in production again until this summer, bu...
The best sounding FM Tuner is.....
It's not just for the car. You might start with Stereophile's recommended components. Then you might try the various mail order highend dealers, to see if you can audition any contendors. I use an ADCOM GTP-350 as the tuner, and it sounds pretty g...
BEST PHONO STAGE FOR UNDER OR OVER 1GRAN
Sheesh, it's got to be the Phonomena with battery power supply...hands down!!!
24/96 Upsampling
He said it would appear on his website, and not a post here (not that this matters). Anyway, I'm sure Mr. Halverson would agree that Jeff Kalt of Resolution Audio is his peer as a designer.
Stoopid amp question, but I'm confused
I can't emphasize strongly enough that you read "The Complete Guide to Highend Audio". Good luck and all the best.
Most important link: Source? Pre-amp?or?
I agree with Bob Harley: the source components are the most important.
Gold CDs sound Darker?
I'm not in the industry right now, but let me say this. Besides being vastly more maliable right down to the "electron microscope" level, gold is supposed to reflect infared wavelengths better than aluminum, and I think it probably does (don't kno...
CD with volume control/ no preamp.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, the new Boulder 1012 really does look like it might outperform the dCS gear (if it's even close to the claimed performance). TO PJPOLAND: The 6 dB is the overall level increase, but noise is helped quite a bit too, esp...
24/96 Upsampling
MONK: Upsampling is not the same as oversampling. You need to learn more, and come back later. To Dekuip: Scull preferred the dCS upsampling of a CD to an SACD playing in the SCD-1. Perhaps the Perpetual isn't a good performer, but when properly e...
Speaker Recommendation
You should really try both. I have the smallest Maggies (MMG), and for $500 new factory direct, they're unbeatable by anything in the world (especially with MIT cabling, and a good amp). They need 250 hours to break in. Maggies don't "come alive" ...
Vote for best US made solid state amp
MIT cables are superior to everything, so you're the moron.
