are 4000$ /pr speakers today better than $4000/pr speakers from mid to late 1990's?
Metal dome tweeters seem to sound less harsh but no less precise in current speakers than what I remember from speakers in the 90s.
Looking for a basic streamer without a DAC, preamp, storage and all that
I've been impressed by both the sound quality and user interface of the Pro-ject Stream Box Ultra S2. I was thinking of getting a Bluesound Node, but kept reading that other streamers produced better sound quality (probably due to less jitter intr...
Concert halls from around the world. What have been your favorites.
Wow, lots of former Wolverines on this thread.Another +1 for Hill Auditorium from me.
Thinking about getting a R2R DAC
Is there any way to demo the Holo Audio DACs? I'm in the Seattle area and have also been looking into the Holo Spring and Holo May DACs.
House buying and the aspiring audipihile
+1 on Master Bedrooms as listening rooms. I think they are the largest closed space typically available in a house.Though my current listening setup might be duplicate for you due to the unusual shape of my master bedroom, I'm sharing this in case...
Did any Amp help you understand lyrics better?
I think there are three factors that help a listener understand lyrics better, or more specifically, how a singer intends to convey those lyrics. As others have mentioned, transparency or clarity of the sound is one of those factors.Another factor ...
Any Comments RE: Soundiiz imports your playlists and favorites easily from TIDAL to Qobuz
Soundiiz works great between Spotify and Qobuz!
Podcast recommendation
I find that the "Beginner Audiophile" podcast to be informative about building an audio system without getting too into the weeds. Their Web site is located at: https://beginneraudiophile.com/ and the podcast can be found via most podcast apps.
To venture back into vinyl or not,...that is the question.
A used Axis is now pretty cheap because most people don't know what an Axis can do. But I probably wouldn't get one because of known issues with the Axis having a fragile power supply.  Maybe a used Rega Planar 3?I think a reason to get a turntabl...
Looking for headphone amp/DAC
Between the Dragonfly Cobalt and the Dragonfly Red, I thought the two definitely had a family resemblance in their sound. The Cobalt MIGHT have been a litter clearer, but not too different from the Red especially after adding a Jitterbug. I actual...
High Performance Audio - The End?
John, !00% agree. That’s probably the reason why I’ve mostly listened to vinyl for the last 30 years. The convenience and now the higher quality of streaming is now getting me to embrace digital.
High Performance Audio - The End?
My perspective is that there are there are two general design directions for audio equipment at higher price points. One direction focused on more detail and resolution. The other direction is oriented towards more musicality and conveying the emo...
Qobuz vs Tidal
In terms of sound quality, Qobuz sounds better hands down to my ears. This is listening via not a particularly high quality digital source (iPhone 6S/Audioquest Jitterbug/Audioquest Dragonfly Red DAC). Qobuz even sounds better through the crappy t...
What is the average dealer mark up?
In terms of accepting a typical dealer markup, the ethical answer for me is whether I want to listen to a product before buying. I recently auditioned 12 pairs of speakers at 7 different stores before buying a pair of speakers that I love. From th...
Has anyone else auditioned something that really was terrible?
I was auditioning $2k floor standing speakers recently. Two speakers that stood out as being surprisingly not good were the B&W 603 and the Goldenear Audio Triton Five.  I've seen good reviews for both but how they sounded seemed nothing like ...
