Recommended British speakers for Creek 4330 Mark 2? Linn Kans would sound nice. I had a pair of Linn Index II speakers that worked great with a Creek 4140.
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment. @jumia For apps that can evaluate room acoustics, your own ears are pretty good. Once you hear a good sounding room it's easier to hear when a room doesn't sound right.
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment. I don’t know that I have enough data to agree or disagree with the assertion of ’most rooms’, but my roughly hexagonal shaped room even with a bed in the room needed one acoustic panel on the 1st reflection point on the left to balance out the sou...
Taking time (and time outs) to enjoy the ride... The way to stay happy as an audiophile is just to accept that often "good enough" really is the point at which trying out audio equipment and the experience of listening of music is at its best.I'm listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd on an iPhone this mor...
Remarkably better sound possible with just 1 system component change? Two dirt-cheap suggestions costing under $100 that are night-and-day better to my ears.1. Drop Tidal, get Qobuz2. If you are streaming through WiFi, try using an Ethernet cable and turn off the WiFi. If you don't have an Ethernet port close to you...
What makes speaker's sound big? One factor no one has mentioned is the quality of the music coming from your source. Better quality source components can make the same music (whether from vinyl or digital) sound fuller and with more presence.Amplifiers can also make the same spe...
Survey: HiFi System Priorities About your comment," My personal view, which I shouldn’t share while I’m posing a survey question but I will anyway, is that most of these folks chasing bitrates would do FAR better if they refocused their energy and money on quality speakers and ...
Survey: HiFi System Priorities For your survey, I would suggest reducing the number of categories as someone who drafts surveys in my day job. There are too many categories to sort easily. I might suggest:SourceAmplificationSpeakersSpeaker cablesInterconnect cablesAcoustic room...
Survey: HiFi System Priorities +1 to the suggestion from @tablejockey to go listen before deciding priorities. A good shop will know how to put together a system that sounds good and your friend can hear the effect of spending more or less on "better" or "worse" components for ...
Survey: HiFi System Priorities I'd advise against overspending on speakers before getting the upstream sources to a reasonable level. As an extreme example, adding great speakers to a Sonos system would even more clearly reveal the shortcomings of the sound quality coming from ...
iPhone/iPad good as a source, or get a streamer? @soix I was using the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with the iPhone. I'm using a Denafrips Ares II DAC. These were the improvements that I heard when using the Pro-ject streamer versus the iPhone:- Broader & more 3-dimensional sounds...
Mac or Bluesound Node2i +1 on Qobuz, but not for Tidal which sounds artificial to with overboosted bass and treble to my ears.
Do different streamers really sound different when using an external DAC FWIW, I found that there was a substantial difference in sound quality with a Pro-ject Stream Box S2 Ultra streamer when turning off the Wi-Fi and HDMI outputs and using an Ethernet cable. Not sure if you can turn off Wi-Fi on the Node 2i.
Opinion: of the Hi-Res streaming services out there, which do you use and why? My listening notes of the services: Round 1, Spotify Premium vs Qobuz: I have Spotify Premium with a Family subscription. From a value standpoint, Spotify was my default choice that has the best search as well as working well for my family. From ...
Opinion: of the Hi-Res streaming services out there, which do you use and why? My subjective impressions of the musicality and sound quality of the major HD streaming services (with Spotify Premium as a lossy comparison)1. Qobuz2. Primephonic3. Spotify Premium (320 kbps Ogg Vorbis which is not lossless)4. IDAGIO5. Amazon HD6... |
