Any way to listen to wav or high bit files with anything approaching audiophile sound?
If OP is not sure what he wants, you're suggesting that he spend $10k+ to get something that does what? For the record, he never listed a price range or budget for equipment.
Any way to listen to wav or high bit files with anything approaching audiophile sound?
I'm getting great sound from a Pro-ject Stream Box Ultra S2. If you put your WAV files on a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or external solid state drive, it will plug right into the back of the Pro-ject streamer and be output to an external...

BTW, I'm not denying that measurements don't matter. My perspective is that there seem to be some aspects of audio reproduction that are not captured by our current equipment, measurements, or even combinations of measurements that are meaningful....

+1 to the comment from @jaytor " If a particular listener prefers one product over another, that's ALL that counts."I've been listening to 5 USB cables with the express objective of figuring out how little I can spend on a USB cable and still get...
Why so many angry audiophiles?
Perhaps some people base their self-esteem on being right & audio is so subjective that there are many flavors of "right". Does the music make you feel happy? I feel that's all the "rightness" that someone needs in relation to listening to music.
If you had to pick a laptop or mini-PC, which one?
If the new computer will be dedicated only to being a music streamer, you might get better sound quality from a dedicated streamer that is more optimized to reduce the amount of electrical noise. The Pro-ject Stream Box Ultra S2 is only $850 &...
Pro-Ject Extension 12 to SME Model 10
My suggestion would be to listen to it to help you make a decision. It would be very hard to determine whether to make the switch even based on the impressions of someone that has heard both. At a certain level of audio product, what's "better" be...
Pathos amplifiers comparison
I'm listening to a Classic One right now connected to Monitor Audio Silver 300 speakers. I find the Classic One to have a really nice tonal quality with a smooth midrange and high frequencies, but with no loss of detail or resolution. Downsides ar...
Options for $1k or less DAC?
+1 on the Denafrips Ares II. The one caveat is that to my ears there might be some harshness, but less harshness than many other DACs under $1k from reviews I've read (i.e., Topping D90 as a prime example of a DAC with the opposite type of sound f...
What’s the benefit of placing speakers like this? (diagonally at the corner)
I think  my current listening space in my hexagonal shaped bedroom has pretty much the same effect as the setup in the Vinnie Rossi article. I chose to treat the 1st order reflection coming from a short wall next to my left speaker, but otherwise ...
Point of higher priced streamer?
This may have been mentioned; I didn't see it in this thread. Adding a streamer means that music is no longer coming from your iPad. You would sign into streaming services (Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal) on the streamer, music is sent directly to the stre...
DAC finalist please help
+1 on jjss49's comments on the Ares II. It does sound very good, but ideally I want a bit more refinement. The Ares II sounds great overall, but I do feel that its sound quality has some harshness when listening for an extended period of time. I...
I Mac or Streamer for source? or is there a difference?
My impressions of the sound quality from a Pro-ject Stream Box Ultra S2 vs a PC laptop or an iPhone running off of its battery only through three different DACs: Audioquest Dragonfly Red, Rega DAC, Denafrips Ares II:The streamer made all three of ...
Music streamers
+1 on the Pro-ject Stream Box S2 Ultra. Several reasons why I got the Pro-ject:Its power supply is reported to be well sorted out. Adding a linear power supply doesn't add much improvement, so that is several hundred dollars that you don't need to...
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
I've always been pretty meticulous and particular when auditioning new equipment for purchase. I do so to avoid buyer's remorse about installing equipment into my system that doesn't provide the sonic benefits or improvements I was expecting. Th...
