Looking for a integated amp.
go for the mistral....I was thinking of making an offer for it simply for a backup unit.
Ready to try vinyl
all things being equal I would prefer direct drive, too. Problem is that true high end direct drive decks are no longer offered by anybody. The cost of designing and tooling for such a product is prohibitive given the level of sales. I do see that...
Ready to try vinyl
Nick's response was more along the lines of "if you must have a mechanical record cleaner then the clearaudio works the best"....and then he proceeded to advise me the Last Record solution is the way to go.
Stereo amplifier for a pair of passive subwoofers.
the bryston would go to the top of the list based on the warranty; agree
Need Processor suggestions for 2 channel into 5
Try an Audio Refinement Pre2DSP; excellent for 2 channel stereo and also a very good HT processor. Only a preamp, though, and you'll need a multi channel amp. A used Parasound HCA1206 for about 700 to 800 is hard to beat as it is a John Curl desig...
Ready to try vinyl
You can get more than acceptable results without a record cleaning machine. Take a look at "Last Record Products"; I use their stuff now and no machine; just a supplied little plastic wipe thing with soft material on it works great.I spoke to Nick...
SVS and Electrostatics
dunno about the SVS but a used REL Strata would probably make you happy
Phono stage upgrade
Second the vote for the Dynavector p75....I feel I would have to spend almost three times as much to get something materially better

a parasound thx amplifier is a bargain on the used market and many of the models have seperate volume controls for each channel which can be useful with passive subs

rega planar 3 and a dynavector 10x5 cartridge
Unipivot vs. Gimbal
One thing not much discussed is the ease with which a cartridge can be destroyed with an unipivot arm. Any arm not secured that can come off easily is dangerous; will you never make a mistake? Can you afford to destroy an expensive cartridge? I du...
Phono Pre-amp for Analog Newbie
Dynavector P75 at 595 is an excellent phono stage that accepts both low and high output cartridges. It also has switches to adjust the unit for the specifications of different cartridges; good value for 595.The Decware phono stage is about 1500 wh...
Looking for phono preamp
Take a look at the Decware tubed phono stage. It can be configured for both MM/MM, only MM, or only MC. Most expensive handles both, of course, and is about 1500. Decware has a thirty day money back policy so you can try it out and return it if no...
Denon DL103 bought in Asia- What to expect?
I have a Shelter 501 II and a Denon DL103R mounted on a SME 312. Both are excellent cartridges; the 103R is a lush sounding cartridge and the Shelter seems to be a bit "crisper" than the Denon. But, the Shelter was three times the price (from Hong...
Understanding phono stages/What to look for?
After looking at many phono stages (inc Aesthetix and Lamm) I came down to two units: the very good unit from Decware would is about 1550 (MM/MC capable) and is a tubed unit. I would up ordering a Dynavector P-75 as I have heard nothing but good t...
