Denon 3910 Universal Player - Opinions? I've had a 3910 for three days and have let it run 24 hours a day playing various media types since then. In all honesty and to my surprise the Denon is sounding quite respectable even when the stock power cord is in use. This player surprised me i...
Is Exemplar the answer? I purchased a 3910 three days ago & have been breaking it in 24 hours a day. Admittedly I haven't spent much time in the past several months with digital gear - so I've lost my digital-bearing slightly - but I must tell you, the stock Denon so...
Is Exemplar the answer? RE: 3910 - I've have communicated with John regarding the potential modification of the new Denon 3910. He informed me that he would be receiving a unit on 9-20-04 to inspect and to begin working on a mod.The link below is a picture of the 3910 in...
Cables Supratek Chardonnay I've used lots of cables with the three Supratek preamps I've owned and I'll get into that below. The issues you mention - particularly the "boomy bass" can be resolved with better tubes. I suggest as a low budget solution, removing the Sovetek 58...
Preamp Deal of the Century The strange thing is that I think the wood cases go on the preamp chassis BEFORE the preamp is built. In my experience, it would be insanely difficult to put the case on after the internals are wired up or remove the case once the preamp is built.

Who is your overall favorite guitarist? For the one of the finest acoustic guitar recordings - pick up a copy of Tommy Emmanuel's album entitled "Only".If you appreciate good recordings, you've got to hear this one. It is stunning and technically very impressive.
Seeking help with feedback through audio system Hi Dan - its tough to tell which channel the feedback comes through. My system is (for lack of a better term) quite holographic - the speakers vanish and origin of any sound is for the most part quite difficult to determine. This resonant feedback...
Seeking help with feedback through audio system Hi Doug, Good questions. This resonant feedback sound tapers off immediately when the volume is lowered and starts immediately when the sound reaches a certain (higher) level. Of course there is a curve in both directions where the sound tapers in...
Seeking help with feedback through audio system Dan and Bornin - thanks for the replies. Yes - it could potentially be a tube I will give that a try as well as try to dampen the tone arm & report results. Bornin - yes... when I lift the tonearm, the feedback goes away. What seems strange to ...
Preamp Deal of the Century Mlkiz, sometimes the fuse will blow if using a rectifier which heats up too fast. Maybe that's why someone suggested changing the rectifier.
Acrylic Source for TT mod? The Teres Platter is only 2.75" thick. TAP Plastics is NOT a CNC machine shop and *I* wouldn't trust the accuracy of their cuts since they do everything by hand. If you want a truly round platter, CNC is the best route. Acrylic can be purchased in...
Preamp Deal of the Century Americanflag - yeah... Mick has done it. He actually commented that the results could be very positive to some people and therefore understand why people may prefer it to the standard Alps. The downside to him was that the stepped attenuator allow...
Preamp Deal of the Century In order to build a Supratek, Mick must order his parts from various suppliers. It's not uncommon for those suppliers to be out of certain parts and/or have them on backorder.Reasons for delays in getting a Supratek built are often more complex th...
Preamp Deal of the Century Mlkiz - I can recall myself being at wits end several years ago when I purchased my first Supratek. The wait was a miserable experience for me. The longer the wait went on, the more I thought about canceling the order out of sheer frustration. I a... |
