How to track down bad tube and what can it mean?
I put the stock tubes back in both components and that's when the problem started. The new tubes I tried then removed were Electro-Harmonix purchased from Tubeworld. The amp is the Mcintosh MC2102 and preamp is C2200.
How to track down bad tube and what can it mean?
Thanks folks. I'll have to spend some time this weekend on this detective effort. The sound, a buzz that reminds me of a blown speaker though I did nothing to effect the speakers this way, appears with whatever source I have selected. This morning...
How many years before MP3 becomes king?
It's already dead. There are new compression formats being released that are far better. Apple's Lossless format for example.
Tannoy Turnberry vs Revel Studio vs SF Cremona
If you can, hear the Tannoys. But it depends on your taste in music. they are awesome for classical, jazz, voice and other acoustic music. Not so great for hard-driving rock.
Two preamps in your system
Hey, someone could bi-source, bi-preamp and bi-amp, running off two fully independant 20 amp circuits. But getting each source to cue up at the same time could be difficult.: )
Two preamps in your system
I would think this would be an expensive option. And to match up SS and tube preamps, not to mention features like volume control designs, for a cohesive presentation would be a challenge. If you're using one amp then you would presumably have to ...
Amplifiers and cables for Tannoy Prestige Series
I'd recommend Mcintosh too. I have the tubed components, but the SS would be good too. I've also happily used Pass Aleph amps and Blue Circle components. I have the D500s which are not as good as but similar to the Prestige series.
FM Antennae
I second the CCRANE antenna. I use it instead of an outdoor antenna and it's just about as good without having to run a cable through a window or wall.
To preamp or not to preamp?
There are pros and cons to each option. I generally preferred running my Opus 21 CDP through a preamp because it was more full-bodied and dynamic while direct it was less veiled, cleaner. The Wadia's built-in volume control appears to be designed ...
new speakers 6ohm where do I connect to my MAC
My speakers are 6 ohms. i tried both 8 and 4 and preferred 4.
i am trying to get a smooth vinyl sound from cd
I've heard several comments lately that the Meridian G08 is very vinyl like. Also consider an Audio Note DAC. I bought mine used from a vinyl guy who said it was the first digital that reminded him of vinyl. He was upgrading up the line.
Time to reflect - why do you post on Audiogon.....
At this point I feel like I know enough that I can contribute back reasonably intelligently (I went through an expensive "education"). Plus it's fun and as Marakanetz says, relaxing. These days I just skim the forums quickly. Sometimes look throug...
Best Redbood CD Player Used/New under $7K
Marakanetz, since your rec is a bit different can you explain why you recommend the iBook? It's a noisy transport. Mine sounds like a UFO taking off. However, if you use the hard drive of the iBook it's fabulous. I have it connected to a Wavelengt...
Combak - Bravo
Don't you mean the Gradient Prelude?
Combak - Bravo
Where? In the US? I've been curious about these.
