Local dealer cuts store in half says audio is dead
Audio dead, I don't think so. Yes, it is very difficult for a dealer in high end audio to have a business if they are not doing home theater, which helps carry the two channel line. The 'loaner' model is essential to make two channel work profitab...
Reel to reel tape question
The shiny side has no recorded material on it unless 'print through' occurred. The latter condition often comes from the reel being tightly spooled and stored that way for many years. Most likely, the dull side is that which was recorded on. Also,...
What makes for a "great" turntable?
I will second 'autolift', especially the Denon machines. I have, in addition to my VPI Aries, the 47F Denon. It gets more play then the Aries.
Circuit City is Closing, Liquidating
Stay away, to the eve of each store's actual close. Otherwise you will be taken, big time. Buy a floor model at no more then 15% of the regular selling price.
What is the best analog sounding CD player $2000
cayin, no contest
Integrated $500-1K for Classic Jazz
I second the Cayin suggestion, but look for a 70, little more power and some extra features. I had auditioned the 50 but felt the 70 had a little more 'push'.
good sounding low price speaker w/ front bass port
KEF's work well and are often very inexpensive.
Upgrade for Proac D2
I would be interested in your D2's, if you decide to sell and if they are in rosewood finish. Keep me posted.
Good news/Bad news
do you know if PS3 has this problem, which I am not familiar with.
Supporting Local Audio Stores are we?
Would like to, but the high end dealer in my local town, part of the metro NYC area, has never been sales friendly. I have a B&O company storefront in my town and they are sales friendly to a fault. I've often pushed my neighbors to drop into ...
Modded SACD player: SACD or Redbook sound best?"
Did you know that in double blind listening testing conducted by the AES, no difference between SACD and Red Book was observed? That is not to say that multi channel SACD's don't sound different, they do. Only two channel have not. So, unless you ...
Are there taxes from items purchased in the UK?
I buy on a regular basis from the UK, Scotland to be exact since it is closer shipping wise to the US. I buy only UK manufactured products. Since the price you pay is less VAT, now 17.5%, the rest of the issues shipping/insurance, credit card fee ...
Opinion on Nakamichi azimuth tape decks please
I don't believe that any deck other then the Dragon had auto azimuth adjustment. Could I be wrong?
What to see at CES?
VPI's new 'Classic' tt.
Vpi aries with Jmw-10 looking to upgrade cartridg
go with the sds. That way you will isolate its impact on your system with the present cartridge. I second Jloveys, don't spend over $1K on a cartridge. I tried a Shure 97 in my vpi once and I was shocked, almost equaled my $2k Clearaudio MC.
