Amir and Blind Testing
@daveinpa  I like your post! Your category 3 is right on. It is fine to buy something just because it makes you feel better. What seems to generate the most angst in these discussions is when people buy things for Reason 3, while trying to convinc...
Amir and Blind Testing
It puzzles me why the debate about measurement vs. subjectivity sometimes gets so fierce. Why can't we have both? I certainly want both. I appreciate that what we can measure may not represent the sum total of our listening experience. But if prop...
Best Recycled Streamer?
@petaluman  Contrary to the experience of many here I have generally found wifi to be a superior delivery path for audio in my house. I have a mesh network so connectivity is good everywhere. My Auralic Aries actually recommends wifi over  a wired...
Best streamer/DAC for up to $1500
When I was in your position I settled on the RME adi2 dac.
Best Recycled Streamer?
Thank you for that really interesting lead. It looks like a nice package. Unfortunately a quick look around seems to show that Pis are in short supply right now. Sources I looked at were all out of stock. Here is an interesting item from Wikipedia...
Suggestions for a streamer only (I have a great DAC)
If I were shopping in that league I would look hard at the Grimm audio MU1 . Hans Beekhuysen, a reviewer who I respect, is swapping out his Aurelic G2 for the Grimm  product. John Atkinson at stereophile  also gave it a definite thumbs up. It repl...
Fist Watt F6 vs Pass Labs XA 25
@ejlif  I am in the process of building in F6 amp, what speakers do you think sounds best with it? Or perhaps I should ask what have you had the chance to use with yours?
How do you get Happy as an Audiophile?
@larry5729 i’m not familiar with your speakers but just based on the dimensions of your room, is it possible that you’re sitting too far away from your speakers? Normally the best listening position is somewhere in the region of an equilateral tri...
How do you get Happy as an Audiophile?
I like @reubent 's response. I can only add that I like listening to the different "flavors" imparted by equipment I own while expanding more and more into DIY and vintage restoration type projects.  Learning more and more about audio, electronics...
The Audiophile Community Has a Problem: Part Deux The Saga Continues?
Being crass, crude and rude is equated by many these days as "telling it like it is" and admired. Those who are old enough will remember the 90's when Fox's format began having hosts talking and even shouting over one another and their guests. TV...
What are you using as a streamer? Constructive feedback please.
Used Auralic Aries (circa 2015) sounds great and comes with a massive external linear power supply, ususally available for $7-800. Very versatile either with it's own Lightning software or Roon.
Benchmark DAC Thoughts
@gnoworyta for what it’s worth I had come to the same conclusion as you that the benchmark dac looked very interesting, I was considering it against the topping D90 and the chord cutest and the RMEADI2 dac. I had not heard any of them and was goin...
How do you listen?
Last week I attended a Beethoven fourth symphony concert at Verizon hall in Philadelphia. The sound levels in the upper balcony center where I was peaked in the 70 to low 80 dB range. I found it comfortable and enjoyable and that is about the same...
Analogue from Digital
@Charles7, your comments and those before it lead to the rational conclusion that what we are really talking about is our preferred form of distortion. For some it is the phonograph needle for others it is the dac, Speakers, cable, etc.. I agree w...
Help wanted spending money and improving my system.
Fastninja, you have a very nice hi-fi system! It probably sounds about as good as it’s ever going to already. Why not send a generous donation to a worthy charity. There are a lot of people in need these days for a lot of different reasons then si...
