Dedicated line vs. power conditioner
I think both arguments are valid. A dedicated line will allow your system to draw current independent of the rest of your home. A wire can only carry a limited amount of current before it begins to heat up and limit the draw. This effect can be mi...
New, Inexpensive Speaker for SET amps
I am also interested in the benefits offered by efficient speakers and SET amps. I saw on the Moth \web site that the speakers are rated at 94dB efficiency. I understand the meaning of speaker efficiency, but I have never seen a discussion on the ...

Chris, you are correct about the possibility of going back and forth all day. That is why these will be my last comments on this subject (feel free to cheer at this point). I apoligize to everyone for dragging them through this. From now on I will...

First of all, "if you dont like the thread, my god, dont read it" makes no sense. You have to read it to know what is in it.Second, I have no problem with you disagreeing with my evaluation of Jeff’s inventory. I should have been more specific abo...
What s Your Frame of Reference?
I like to use recordings of the human voice when making critical decisions. If they sound natural, then I feel like I’m on the right path. I second the recommendation of Johnny Cash mentioned above. His recordings from the past few years are very ...

I applaud the criticism I received on my responses from jeff and snooker. They were straightforward enough to disagree with me and state their reasons. The rest of you who left negative feedback without a reason should follow their examples and us...
Newbie with "bright" system
I agree with Jeff on the preamp. That would be an excellent place to start. I have no experience with the BAT gear, but you can pick up a used Conrad Johnson PV10AL for around $600 that would transform your system. It sounds like butter. I would h...

Hey, you hung it out there for comment. I offered an honest opinion and got slammed with negative feedback. I visit these forums to get good ideas on how to improve my system and discover new music. I don’t see any value in patting myself on the b...

How can power cords make a difference?
It doesn't matter how many reasons you can list why they shouldn't make a difference. If there is only a single reason why they do, then they do and the reasons why they shouldn't are meaningless. My wife shouldn't care which way I fold my underwe...
Will re-terminating
I agree that it would logically make sense that changing the type of connector would make no difference. However, I hear people claim on a daily basis that all manner of seemingly insignificant changes make tremendous differences in the sound of t...

It will take a moment longer, but you can compose your posts in a word processor, spell check, copy, and then paste it hear if you want to minimize errors. Of course, it won't catch mistakes like using hear for here.
LP Label help.
Albert is correct about a lot of Mosaic titles being out of print. They are still in business though and a lot of titles are still available at http://www.mosaicrecords.com including some of the Miles Davis sets.
LP Label help.
Welcome to the confusing world of LP collecting. The back issues of "The Tracking Angle" magazine had a lot of info on this but it is out of business. The 180 gram Impulse reissues are generally very good and the Classic reissues are also very goo...
Transforming a UK Rega into a US Rega
A transformer can only change voltage, not frequency. If the Rega motor is dependent on line frequency to run at the correct speed, it will run fast in the USA. I have no knowledge of the Rega motors, perhaps someone who has one will know.
