ArkivMusic Cds any takers? I have one or maybe two. The one that comes to mind (I think) is a Bruckner Te Deum by Eugen Jochum. The recording quality is pretty good for the date of the original recording. I do not have the original to compare it to. Since the driver for Arc...
best classical redbook cds for strings and piano One more I need to add. Try the Klemke Quartet on the Mozart "Haydn" quartets. Very well done perfomances and well recorded in a rather hot venue. This might be a little to bright on some systems but you should be fine on these recordings.
840C and MHDT Havana Xenithon and Dtc,It would seem we are all hearing pretty much the same thing on the 840C. X, please keep us posted on your progress.
best classical redbook cds for strings and piano Generally, I find ECM, MD&G, and Hyperion combine top notch recording with top notch ensembles in the chamber music area. Some specifics.ECM Schiff's recently completed cycle of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas. Watch out for vol 1 on the sonics bu...
840C and MHDT Havana Xenithon,I'm glad you had a chance to audition the 840C in your system with your music. Reading through your preliminary impressions I think you have probably heard what your are going to get with the 840C. Your statement that its an enigma is rig...
840C and MHDT Havana Xenithon, I thought a few more comments on the 840C might help clarify my experience. With regard to the AM having better bass and dynamics than the 840C, it might be helpful to know those are primary strengths of the AM. So while the 840C is cert...
840C and MHDT Havana Xenithon,The "sheen" with the 840C is something that is just there that I don't hear in live music. It would seem this should be very objectionable, but I don't find it so. Apparently the virtues of the 840C are strong enough that I am willing to ...
840C and MHDT Havana I bought an 840C about a year ago. There is certainly a burn in, but I'm not sure it takes all of 200 hrs. Its difficult for me to say exactly how long it took for the 840C, because I replaced my pre after I had less than 100 hrs on the 840C, so t...
Violion concertos/Symphonies....part 2 If you are inclined to follow the Hilary Hahn lead, let me suggest her pairing of the Brahms and Stravinsky Violin concertos. Best Brahms I've heard, and I've heard a bunch. The Stravinsky is just as good. Also try the Bach Partita no. 3 if you li...
Violin concertos/Symphonies.... Eugen Jochum's Bruckner 9th with the Staatskapella Dresden. His Bruckner 1st with the same orchestra is also mighty good. Also try Jochum's Bruckner Te Deum with the Berlin Philharmonic.
Preamp for McCormack DNA-125 Gold? Budget $2k Jp,I am using the balanced Promethius Ref 4 TVC into a pair of older DNA-1 monoblocks with very satisfying results. My monoblocks are an older pair with 100 kOhm input impedance. If I recall, most of the later revisions by SMc audio use a much low...
Tinny sound accompanying cello on recordings ? I have had the pleasure of hearing Harrell preform the Dvorak live. I sat fairly close to Harrell, probably about 35 ft. My guess is that what you are describing is probably a recording accurately capturing his sound. I would describe it as cello ...
McCormack DNA .5 and 1- big difference? Shakey,Good to hear from you. Yes, I'm still very happy with the amps. Can't beat them for the price.
McCormack DNA .5 and 1- big difference? I had a 0.5 Delux and now have 1.0 delux monoblocks. I never had the standard 1.0. What I can tell you is that while the 0.5 delux is a very nice sounding amp for the money, it is far less resolving than the 1.0 delux monos. The 1.0's revealed som...
Sub-woofer/ Source for MAgnepan MG 1.6s I tend to agree that the bass on the 1.6's is pretty good without a sub. It is important to move them out from the back walls in order to avoid cancellation of the lower frequencies. If you have unavoidable room placement issues a sub might be the... |
