Which component is most responsible?
Newbee, perhaps you could suggest a suitable recording to the OP that you know has a good separation of voices. That takes the recording variable out of the problem.
Which component is most responsible?
Awhile back I started a similar thread. For me, the holy grail was a clear spatial separation of the first and second violins in string quartet recordings. My premise was that the problem was inherent to my speakers (magnepan 3.7Rs) due to the sid...
Magnepan Ribbons and Hearing Loss
MKH, I agree with Elizabeth. And look at it this way, you won't need to use the resistors some people insist on using to tame the Maggie ribbons. That said, there is nothing like an audition to answer your question.
CARY AUDIO SA-500.1 for Wilson Audio Sophia 3
Gabuli, sorry, but I'm having a little trouble understanding your last question. Let me try anyway to offer some helpful thoughts. The Sophia's are 87dB efficient with a minimum impedance of 3.1 Ohms. The Plinius is rated for 220 W class A into 4 ...
good preamp for dynaco mk3 monoblocks with maggies
I'd suggest you think about the Promethius Signature TVC that is for sale now. This is a superb passive- if you don't need gain. I don't think you can come close to this level of transparency for anything close to the price. Also, being a passive,...
CARY AUDIO SA-500.1 for Wilson Audio Sophia 3
Gabuli, I have owned Cary 500.1s for about two years, using them with Magnepan 3.7Rs. I wouldn't call the Cary's slow. I could imagine them being called sweet or warm. They control the Maggies well, so I suspect the Sophias will be well controlled...

Schubert, That was the most blatantly rigged sporting event I have witnessed in some time. That game, coupled with the Saturday night Buckeye loss, has me about to swear off football.
Midwest plains travelogue
Schubert, Much as I love Bruckner, his greatest work was teaching Mahler. The transition from Bruckner to Mahler at the Fla line symbolized reaching the promised land. Making that trip through Ga. down I-75 is, believe it or not, one of my bucket ...
Midwest plains travelogue
This thread is kind of funny to read. It reminded me of days gone by, trying to cope with the drive down 1-75 through Georgia. Bruckner symphonies--start up number 2 in Chattanooga, run through the rest of the symphonies, and don't cue up Mahler u...
classical newbie
Tostado, You have thrown down the guantlet. Yes, there are those here who listen to chamber music. To your suggestions I would add the Britten, Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Dvorak quartets, the Beethoven piano trios, the Brahms sextets-- shall I go on?...
Power Cords: A Skeptic Looking to Dabble...
Jmcgrogan's comments are absolutely spot on. I will add the following. It has been my experience that the PC's that will make a clear difference (improvement) start at about $600 new, #300 used. I have had very good success with VH audio AirSines,...
What is best sub to match with Magnepan?
I have used Rel subs with my MG3.7s with some success. I think one key to a successful pairing of any dynamic sub with Maggies is what Johnny b said above--Don't try to do too much! If you allow the subs to just provide a little foundation at the ...
Is the Oppo-105 with Modwright modifications
Tbg, Thanks for the information. One of these days I'll have to chat a bit with Dan Wright about the 105. I've already got a ModWright Sony, with which I am very pleased. I'm sure the modded 105 betters it, but I need to make sure this is going to...
Is the Oppo-105 with Modwright modifications
Moomoo, my understanding is that the 1 second delay remains in the 105. This is the one thing that prevents me from buying the 105 and having the ModWright truth mod done. I can't imagine the frustration of trying to listen to Bach's St Matthew wi...
