Advice using electrostats with tube amp.
I need to make a correction.  Although it would have no bearing on the subject of impedance, the speakers in question are the Ethos (not Theos) which, as well as with the Odyssey's before them, I had been using with the Peachtree 220 amp. Today I'...

Stringreen, I already have the Cary so that's the starting point for my inquiry because it will probably stay in the system.   It'd sure be interesting to know the basis for your advice though as it may help with the decision re the electrostats.
Advice using electrostats with tube amp.
Sfall, the room is about 15X20' with 8.5' ceiling but my listening position is only about 13' from the speakers and i dont listen at high volumes. I agree withyou, then, that it should be fine but because the purchase is not a small one for me, I'...

Gdnrbob, thanks but I reviewed the Odyssey's before i bought them new and the info I found indicated somewhat the same thing as you found. However, multiple knowledgeable members here provided information that certain conditions can result in impe...
AES SET2 monoblocks by Cary Audio
Never mind. I auditioned them in my home; they're very good but Not for me.
AES SET2 monoblocks by Cary Audio
The title is correct according to several ads I've found as well as info provided by the owner who questioned Cary staff concerning the limited reviews for this mono pair. I don't know what else to add that might help you. Also, I wouldn't feel sc...
Need help identifying type or class of new tube amplifier
Yes, 30WPC if he's right and  A/B is my best guess also. I'd post images of the circuitry but, because it's not point to point wiring, its difficult to figure out. Besides, I haven't had much luck using photobucket to send images.
Random thoughts from a sort of, kind of audiophile
Oblgny, if i understand your tin can reference and your dedication to music listening regardless of the competency of its delivery, to some extent, I agree.  In my experience, familiarity with certain music allows me to enjoy it regardless of repr...
What type amp do I have
The sound is very good, to the extent that I enjoy listening to it as part of my second system nearly as much as I do my main one. I listen to it in an almost near field configuration as follows. Laptop (iTunes or Pandora), USB DAC (Audioquest Dra...
What type amp do I have
Many thanks, dekay. I found the ad and the images seem the best clue that these two amps have a similar origin, especially in regard to the circuit board type. Going from the Russian script and alphabet to English it's easy to speculate that "Moon...
Possible sound deterioration adding subwoofer between amp and speakers
It worked. The signal to the amp seems clean and the sub is working ok. The rest of the story is that I used a splitter combining R and L signals from the DAC to the mono line input of the sub. If the sub's power switch is on, regardless of the po...
Possible sound deterioration adding subwoofer between amp and speakers
I think I have an idea that might work, at least it did when I was using a preamp in my main system. I'll use 2 RCA splitters from the Dragonfly sending duplicate pre amplified signals to both the amp and the sub. The amplifier is integrated and t...

Mikapen, I'm going off subject with you a bit to comment on that "Sweet Sixreen" speaker that we probably both learned of in a Popular Electronics article. That was in the late fifties. I did most of the time consuming build altering the excursion...
Possible sound deterioration adding subwoofer between amp and speakers
I had read this info on their website before I started this experiment and chose option #2. What you're suggesting makes sense and I had even thought of trying that. After all, when I built my first amp in the late fifties I simply paralleled my b...
Possible sound deterioration adding subwoofer between amp and speakers
Thanks, Coli. I got your post as I was responding to Eric. At this point I'm going back to what was working so well.
