Solid State Preamp for Parasound JC 1 amps
A similar question was asked a while back, so you might do a search. For 2K you might find a used Ayre preamp a good choice.Brian Walsh
Tenor Hybrid v. VTL MB-450 Sig.
Tubegroover, I didn't mean to sound condescending toward Jim2 nor to anyone else and apologize if I did. Truth be told, and Bobby knows it, I enjoy visiting his room at CES each year to play some tasty vinyl cuts...always fun... Some of my custome...
Tenor Hybrid v. VTL MB-450 Sig.
I've really enjoyed reading this thread (or 'string' as Bobby calls it :-) and got a lot of laughs. Sounds like a bunch of guys with some different priorities and different ways of hearing things, but guess we're all after the same thing: music en...
Tenor Hybrid v. VTL MB-450 Sig.
Being familiar with rcrump's and rhyno's systems, I'll throw out a couple of thoughts, biased as they may be.The Merlins excel at what they do, portraying a detailed, musical image, revealing much of the character of the associated equipment. They...
Merlin Mil. w/hybrid amps??
Brooks, I am in your back yard and will have a CAT JL-2 available for audition very soon. I can help you with some of the other options you have mentioned here and in private email.Brian Walsh
Verity Audio Sarastro - Anybody heard
I heard the Sarastro and enjoyed it. That said, for a speaker with moving coil drivers I'd much prefer the Rockport Merak/Sheritan Mk II, at $29,500.Brian Walsh
CD Treatments-Which ones do you like?
Optrix on play side, Eco3 on label side works well here...Brian Walsh
Las Vegas "THE" alternative show?
http://www.the-expo.net provides the information you seek. Venues are the St. Tropez hotel and the San Remo hotel. The St. Tropez is next to the Alexis Park, and there are free shuttle buses between the San Remo and St. Tropez.Brian Walsh
used goldmund T-3f at $4750?
I enjoyed owning an LP12 for years, with Ittok arm and Asak cartridge. It was sensitive to floor vibrations and somewhat to acoustic feedback at higher volume levels, but it served me well. Placing it on a Machina Dynamica Nimbus stand was interes...
used goldmund T-3f at $4750?
Based upon what I have read and heard from others, the T3F is not a desirable arm, at least in part due to reliability or staying set up correctly. For $4750 you can do better, in my opinion. The Air Tangent is a really good arm, although about tw...
Question for Rowland aficionados
Other manufacturers using the ICEpower modules include Acoustic Reality in their eAR amps. Others have tried them and chose to go discrete... Tkheem has shed some light on what's in the Rowlands...the 302 and others in the 300 series also use the ...
What days to attend CES?
Thursday is not the best day to do critical listening, as many systems are not warmed up completely, and in fact some people are still setting up on Thursday morning. Some people come just for the weekend, which tends to be busier. The show ends a...
What SOLID STATE preamp recommended for the JC-1?
CTC Blowtorch, by a significant margin. More affordable units offering good performance would include Ayre.
Pre-Amp for Parasound JC-1
The MP-1 is a very nice preamp with an ardent following. Although I haven't owned one, I know someone who replaced one with a Blowtorch and was overwhelmed with the improvement. He uses Parasound JC-1s as well. Alas, the Blowtorch is not a product...
Is there any obvious advantage for monoblocks?
Elgordo, the Parasound HCA-3500 which you mention is now available in a nicely improved monoblock version called the Halo JC-1. While the JC-1 is largely an HCA-3500 split in two, it also has twice the power supply, nearly twice the heat sink area...
