DaVinci tonearm and azymuth
Lewm: While the Feickert software measures crosstalk, it also measures phase, to which the ear is more sensitive. The azimuth angles at which crosstalk and phase error are minimized don't always coincide, although they are often close. Since minim...

Once you hear a truly full range ESL with the appropriate associated equipment and cabling it is very hard to go back.
Pure Class A shootout
Rockport speakers are voiced around Gryphon amplifiers, although Andy Payor has used several different amplifiers both tube and solid state over the years, including ML 33s. If you are considering the Altair and Arrakis I suggest cost should not b...

Good post, Dre_j. Quite a bit of information about the Feickert software azimuth measurement, including the phase measurements as well, can be seen in the Azimuth compendium on his website.

If the stylus is not 100% vertical in relation to the upper plane of the mounting cartridge body, you need a headshell which can be rotated in its axis - at least to some degree.Or shim between the cartridge and headshell. I do that where azimuth ...
The Hub: Futterman H3: Seen one lately?
There have been several other OTL manufacturers that have come and gone- Prodigy (Futterman variant, and IMO the best Futterman execution anyone ever did), Counterpoint (Futterman variant developed by Roger Modjesky if memory serves), Silvaweld (K...

I agree that on an arm at this cost should be built correctly.Having the headshell level, though, gives absolutely no assurance of optimum azimuth setting. Getting it properly aligned is a must.
Current feeling on stacked quads?
Those of you attending CES and THE Show in Las Vegas next month might like to visit room 4056 at the Flamingo, site of THE Show. Sound Lab and Teo Audio will be showing with Atma-Sphere electronics and some other world class products. As a dealer ...
sme 30/2 or TW Acustic Raven AC3
Syaak, several reliable sources have expressed that the single motor TW sounds better than the 3 motor version, and it's a lot less money to boot. But at this level I wouldn't think of purchasing without a personal audition, in your system if poss...
CES in Las Vegas
11-24-09: Mrtennisdon't waste your time. the sound is genereally poor, even with your own cds.i have been attending ces and the show for about 15 years. probably won't do it any more.Too bad, because you'll be missing out. But if staying home and ...
Any experience with Copper Mat on Raven One
For more impartial views you might ask other turntable manufacturers what they think. There must be a reason why no one else is doing it.
Will I benefit with 20 or 15 amp dedicated lines
A subpanel can have its own grounding, isolated from the ground of the main panel. I used 6 gauge for the ground, bolted to the center of a buried 2'x2' steel plate as is done for swimming pool installations. For 20A circuits, 12 gauge solid core, ...
Need super quiet exhaust fan
By no damper I was referring to the damper behind the grille. If present it should be fully open, not used to adjust the airflow quantity, and if possible it should be removed altogether. Correct, most domestic fans have backdraft dampers built in...
Need super quiet exhaust fan
If you don't want to hear it, the fan *must* be remote from the room, with generously sized lined ductwork between the room and the fan, with at least one elbow. Use an aluminum or cast grille, not a cheap stamped steel one, at the room, and no da...
Does Wilson Sophia Sound good at low volumes?
The performance of a loudspeaker at low volumes has very little to do with the associated amplification, except for the amplifier distortion and noise levels. The Fletcher-Munson loudness curves are far more important. The speaker drivers may or m...
