Tube Preamp suggestion for the uninitiated I second the Conrad-Johnson PV-10 or PV-11. Look for one with a phonotage. You might want a turntable someday. A nice C-J preamp like this should come in a little under your budget, leaving money for some interconnects.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Just an update on my first anniversary of deciding to keep the Walsh 2000s. Over the year, I have made numerous improvements to my system. I have added a new DAC (K-Works SupperBerry, a highly modded Beresford DAC), new digital cable, new preamp (...
Calling Vandersteen Subwoofer Users Thanks John. That I can manage! Will try it soon and report back.
Using an External Hard Drive as a Music Server I am waiting for affordable, large, flash drives before I dive into computer audio. No noise, heat or fans.
Calling Vandersteen Subwoofer Users well, becasue of the layout of my system, and the number of components already plugged into the Quintet, I don't think I will be able to test things out the way John has suggested. At some point, I will try to borrow a Duet or two and try them out.
Conrad Johnson PV11, MF200 B&W Matrix 804 Synergy My brother bought an Outlaw sub. Inexpensive, not boomy, fills a large listening space with clean, well balanced bass on both music and movies.
top 5 preamps under $1,200 Used Conrad Johnson tube units - PV11, PV12, et. al.
RCA cleaners Resurecting an old thread. These are available from MusicDirect. Here is the link:http://www.musicdirect.com/product/66435Has anyone tried the current version of this device? If so, what is your impression? Thanks in advance.
Component racks I also have a lot of gear. I bought a VTI TV stand, with an extra shelf. It is double wide, so there are a total of four shelves (eight component spaces), plus the top. It is wide enough for a pair of turntables unless the plinths are very over-si...
Calling Vandersteen Subwoofer Users I won't break off any grounds, John. Haven't had any time to work on the system. Hope to try it out over the holiday. I will keep posting. Thanks.
Calling Vandersteen Subwoofer Users Are you suggesting that as a permanent solution - one power strip for the whole system? Wouldn't I be limiting the amount of AC power for all the amplifiers, RPTV, etc.? Or did you mean to try this temporarily to see if the hum goes away?
Best speaker in the US $ 30-45.000,00 range I recently heard the Vandersteen 7. IMHO, it's a must audition if you are spending that kind of money on speakers.
Tips for buying used Vinyl needed This is indeed a wonderful thread! Adding my $0.02:I often take a chance on less than pristine looking used vinyl if the price is right. I attend a local record show near my home every 3 months. I do most of my buying at this show. Last Sunday, I ...
Sub for Totem Arros I love the Vandy 2Wqs also, and I own a pair. However, your mains must be fairly flat to 40Hz to work with this model. I am not sure that is the case with the Arros. You risk having a dip in the response between 40 and 80Hz.As an alternative, you ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Frazeurl - as you know, I have been using a used pair of MWTs for surrounds for a while now. Absolutely terrific, crossed over @ 80Hz to a Def Tech subwoofer. I get a real 360 degree sound field with excellent uniformity of tone front to back. Enjoy! |
