How many LP's do you own? How long did it take? I guess about 1000, 25% jazz, 25% classical and 50% rock. I started buying LPs in 1973, fell for CD's "perfect sound forever in 1987, but have come back to vinyl. Most of my buying is used, ungraded, at a local record show that takes place quarterl...
Vandersteen 2Wq crossover Congrats. The X-2 crossovers are pretty good, and very high value. The real magic, though, is the 2Wq. IMHO, this sub may be the most underrated product in all of the high end. I like my pair so much that when I upgraded from my Vandy 1Cs, I made ...
Not your everyday bookshelf speaker? Reference 3a makes some excellent stand-mount speakers that are very efficient. Not cheap, but high value.

pass labs compatible with kef reference 203/2 My experience is limted to a brief demo at a dealer, but the 205/2 with a Pass amp and preamp (not sure which) filled a large room with very good sound on a variety of material. My guess would be yes, they are compatible.
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers? Westborn - I won't argue taste with you, but have you heard the current models in the Ohm Walsh line? I had never heard Ohm Walsh speakers prior to my home trial of the 2000s, so my only comparison was to other brands of speakers. IME, the 2000s c...
Is the Squeezebox Touch complicated? Mlsstl - Who spent "big bucks"? The SBT and the Vortexbox 1TB model, plus a back up drive, all came in at well under $800, delivered. Off-the-charts bang for the buck, IMHO. Soon, I will upgrade the digital cable from the SBT to my DAC. It only ge...
Long IC pre to amp FWIW, I am having some 20' ICs to connect my preamp to my amp custom made for me as I type. Before I placed the order, however, I checked with the manufacturer of the preamp (McIntosh). I was told a run that length of RCA ICs would be no problem f...
Is the Squeezebox Touch complicated? IME, having a server designed for use with the SBT makes life much simpler. My Vortexbox appliance is a dedicated computer running Linux that was designed with several wifi music players in mind, including the SBT. The combo is a home run, and muc...
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers? Well, I'll through in my $0.02. I am not a DIYer, but here's where I would start:The big hurdle is that most amateur speaker builders source their drivers, and sometimes crossovers, from OEM manufacturers, like SEAS. AFAIK, no OEM driver manufactu...
Best Speakers for around $2000 I would suggest an in-home audition of the Ohm Walsh 1000. As long as your room is not too big for it (there is a size guide at the ohm web site), they should give you everything you desire according to your post. I own the 2000s, and they are exa...
Is the Squeezebox Touch complicated? Love my SBT, and have yet to have a dropout. I paired it with a VortexBox Appliance (~$400), all connected to my home wifi network. I love the sound through my K-Works SuperBerry DAC. Every bit as good as playback from a CDP.I am ripping many home...
Let's hear from Long Time Owners I don't upgrade all that often, but when I do, it is because I have heard something - at a hifi store, a show or someone else's home - that left me wanting what I just heard. To me, the challenge has always been: How close can I get to one of thes...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Parasound - Funny you should say you don't even audition speakers anymore. Since I joined my local audio club a few years ago, I have been able to audition dozens of speakers, plus electronics of all sorts. As my earlier posts explain, I love doin...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Mapman - I agree completely. While I really enjoy listening to my system as it is currently configured, the Ohms respond very well to upgrades. I am currently evaluating a pair of Vandersteen MHP-5 crossovers (I have a pair of Vandy subs) that rep... |
