Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
There is a wealth of information on ESL's at diyaudio.com under the Planars & Exotics forum.  The technical guru's there are extremely helpful and generous with their knowledge for both the novice and the more experienced enthusiasts.  They ha...
What speaker do you passionately want to demo?
Tannoy Stirlings or Turnberrys, and SP versions of the Fyne 501 and 502.  For a completely different presentation, the Graham LS6 in either the standmount or floor standing versions.
Looking for my Final Pair!!
Ah, the mighty Bozaks!  One of my all-time favorite speakers that I've owned were the Bozak B501 Concerto VII's....very smooth with a fabulous midrange.  Wish I still had them.  They were great for all types of music, but were especially good with...
Bozak E300
Yes, it would have been a very worthwhile upgrade.  In their day, the Bozak aluminum midrange drivers were some of the best you could buy.  By adding an 8 ohm B209 midrange and an N-10102A X-over, the B300 became the three way model B302A...an exc...
Speaker upgrade for classical music
About an hour and half away from you in Taos is a audio store, Sound Science, that sells Tannoy, Harbeth, Kef, and a few other good brands. Know nothing about them, but it might be worthwhile to give them a call.
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
I am curious if anybody has compared the Stirlings to the Turnberrys, and if so, were the Turnberrys worth the extra two grand.  I was at Upscale Audio(I believe they are the Tannoy distributor for the U.S.) about a year ago and was able to view t...
Bozak 312s from 1968
I've owned a few Bozak models over the years and wish I stilled had the Concerto VII's.  They were manufactured in Connecticut and had the classic New England signature sound where the highs were more than adequate but not sizzling, like JBL, Alte...
seeking ‘HORN’ ideas apart from Klipshc Lascalla
You may want to look into the Tannoy Prestige GR range of speakers.  $15k will get you close to the Kensingtons.  Several ex Tannoy engineers have started their own company, Fyne Audio, which has received very good press.  There are not many deale...
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers
Hi Erik-Squires,Just for clarification:  When you mentioned "A full-range speaker has only one voice coil, and no caps", I know you were referring to capacitors and not a speaker dust cap.
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers
Back in the sixties and possibly into the mid seventies, JBL and Stephens-Trusonic produced what they called extended range or full range drivers.  Both used an aluminum dust cap for the mids and some of the lower highs.  For optimum performance, ...
stand-mount speakers for classical music
The Tannoy Eaton's are a fairly large stand-mount speaker that may provide you with what you are looking for.  I have not heard them, but I do like the Tannoy sound.  They are in the $5000 range and might be worth a hear see if you can find a deal...
Good Streamer with WiFi Connectivity
Jeepers , I think you will be extremely happy with either the U1 or G2, and doubt there is much of a discernible difference in sound quality.  Hans Beekhuyzen on YouTube has some informative reviews on streamers that might be helpful to you.
Good Streamer with WiFi Connectivity
Auralic designed the Aries G1 for wireless operation and recommend it over an ethernet connection.  The Airies also has twin linear power supplies while I believe the Lumin U1 Mini only has a single switched power supply.  I've never heard the Lum...
Vivid Audio alternatives
There is an interesting review at dagogo.com of the Tannoy Prestige Canterbury GR in which the reviewer compares them to his Giya G1's.  Two completely different engineered and designed loudspeakers: the Tannoy being a traditional wood furniture g...
Fairly new to streaming. Where to start?
The Altair deal that uberwaltz mentioned sounds pretty good, especially since it has the optional ssd installed....one less cable to need.  Makes it a complete server.  Plus the older Altair allows for a different dac, if you like, but its interna...
