Can anyone rate the salk songtower qwt speakers?
Had mine for @ 3 weeks now and they sound amazing. I got them with the sonic caps bypass option. They put a smile on my face from day one that has not left me yet...Very balanced, very extended, very dynamic, easy to place (reason I bought them I ...
Van Alstine SS vs. McCormack DNA amps
I have the DNA 0.5 deluxe edition driving a pair of SongTowers I just received a week ago and they sound great! I have not heard the Van Alstine but if you start with the McCormack and find the urge to change they are easily sold on Agon.Good Luck
Is it normal for the woofer to move in/out slowly
Rja also brings up a good point, repeated surges from frequent turning on I guess will affect tube life as well. May be the best compromise is to turn the pre on once a day and off for bed time :-)Cheers
Is it normal for the woofer to move in/out slowly
It sounds like it is OK since the woofers are not driven to their limit and they move slowly. I wish I could leave the tubed pre on all the time but like a light bulb, that would reduce the life of the tubes. Thanks for the answers!
Driver matching vs break in period
Most reputable manufacturers measure and match drivers (or match output by tweeking crossovers) for either speaker pairs or to match a model's reference (or output level) closely since any miss-match does affect imaging. I also believe that break ...
Small speakers...big sound??
I am partial to ATC and Dynaudio, they tend to sound good at any level and have "balls", never constipated as long as your amp is up to it...Cheers
CD Player with Analogue Volume Controlled Output
Open up your choice of CD player by considering the following passive pre with zero switches in signal path. I am very happy with it!http://luminousaudio.com/axiom.htmlCheers
ATC SCM 11 Vs SCM 19...Need immediate suggestion
Pani, I did zero listening to them until they had over 200 hours so I don't know what they sounded like before 200 hours :-)However the changes I picked up on between 200 and 500 hours were a little more micro detail at low to moderate levels and ...
ATC SCM 11 Vs SCM 19...Need immediate suggestion
Pani, I listen to all kinds of music but mostly classic rock, female vocals and jazz, blues, folk etc...I am also familiar with Dynaudio. But I have found the ATC to be the most satisfying to listen to and they make all my cd's easy to listen to, ...
ATC SCM 11 Vs SCM 19...Need immediate suggestion
I have not heard either the 11 or 19 but own a pair of SCM 12. They use the same super linear mid/bass unit as the 19 (I think).I broke them in for over 200 hours before even listening to them (facing each other with one wired out of phase playing...
Mirage BPS-400 subwoofer or something new?
In my humble opinion this is a very good sub especially if you have a large room. Mirage made some nice subs (mighty M is how I referred to my sub when I had one).I now use a REL Strata III because of their speaker level connection set up which wo...
The best small bookshelf speaker you ever heard?
For me it's the ATC SCM 12Amazing micro and macro dynamics, timber, a piano sounds like one etc. They sound very good at ANY level from a whisper to concert level. For a list of speakers I have owned and know well:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/...
Dynaudio breakin period
My experience with Dynaudio and ATC, never ever judge them before a good 500 to 1000 hours on them. If you don't have that kind of patience (I don't) set them up facing each other (almost touching) with one speaker wired out of phase and play them...
What do you look for in a pair of speakers?
I'm with Marakanetz 100%I also like micro-dynamics, a speaker that "pulses" with life the way music often does, no constipated speakers for me!Cheers
Freaky speaker experience:
Sometimes less is more...Decent jumpers allow both speaker terminals to look like a single electrical connection (almost) while with a bi-wire you are at the mercy of the "voicing" introduced by the additional wire. I am guessing in your case the ...
