Less Is Really More - Schiit's New Yggdrasil DAC - Less Is More
@don_c55  With respect and, having once believed that Stax electrostatic headphones were the utopian hifi answer, I have subsequently found a higher level of musical palpability, presence and entertainment from a loudspeaker based system. Having ...
Shouldn't This Sound Boomy?
"Boomy" would normally show a peak in the 70-80Hz area, which you don't have. The graphs are a waste of time, if you're happy with what you hear.
Speaker positioning and center image depth
Your question is not an easy one to answer. It's much more complex than speakers. Recording, mixing, cables (@Jason Bourne - no need for comment) and everything in the chain that affects the delivery of spatial information to our brain. However, ...
Go get out your pitchforks, I’ve done a sacrilegious thing. . .
@last_lemming  I was drawn to your post to see what responses you promoted. However, your comment "It’s dead quiet, and I can’t discern the difference in bypass mode either." has me confused. Please can you provide clarification?
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
@hilde45  [Well, it seems like you & I could agree with a post on Sunday, by kenjit about speaker design (linked in a box below the end of this message). I found it very disappointing that so many negative posts were received on that thread. ...
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
Never done that and won't be doing it now I have found audio nirvana. However, I would be interested if you could articulate the advantages / disadvantages that such a strategy provides, please. Kind regards, BP
Words of wisdom on choosing a speaker
I concur with your interesting dissertation. You are alluding to the reason why we have a music and audio industry. Your point applies to everything in hi-fi, including upstream and downstream issues in the music production, reproduction and sou...
Moved from medium attic like room to larger room, everything is too bright
I don't know why you are thanking me. If you are looking to replace your loudspeakers already, you clearly don't understand, nor wish to embrace what I was advising you to do. Seems like you're on the road to potentially trashing up to U$6k. Sor...
After the thrill is gone
Don't have that experience anymore. Just change the sound output to keep the brain interested... Option 1. CD Transport - DAC - Pre Amp - Power Amp - Speakers; Option 2. CD Transport - DAC - Power Amp - Speakers; Option 3. MacBook Pro Audirvan...
Moved from medium attic like room to larger room, everything is too bright
Lots to think about here and, I will try to scratch the surface of what may be going on and, later, a possible pathway for you to consider. It's very complex and I am in no doubt that what you are experiencing is due to the intervention of human h...
What do you consider the most when choosing a pair of speakers?
Presentation Palpability Entertainment
Euro Tumble
Your comment suggests that you have not auditioned and chosen the make and model of speaker that works for you, in your system / room. It's not about price, but results. If you have no idea what speakers you need, then your cost savings (if any)...
New equipment
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
How Audiphiles are Different
@erik_squires  Great stuff! You are actually, in the main,  are referring to The Perception of Hearing. Perhaps you and others will find an article on page 42 of HiFi Critic, Vol.12/No.1 (Jan-Mar 2018) of interest? It was written from my perso...
For those that have separate Streamers & DACS
Visit resellers, audition what your research tells you could be options. Make a shortlist, then... You have to audition in your own system / environment. If you can't get a home audition, then cross that dealer / brand off your list. Try with i...
