Purist Audio Cables.
I found the Nirvana cables to be very close in performance to the Purist Maximus. The Colossus, on the other hand, I found to be a better sounding cable than the Nirvana. It was more transparent and offered better soundstaging.
Biggest Baddest Audio Cables
Purist "Dominus" if you really like big cables.
Mark Levinson preamp no. 38 vs 38s vs 380 vs 380s
The 38s has teflon circuit boards and sounds better than the 38. Same thing with the 380 and 380s. The 380s is the best sounding of the four models.
Classe Dr5 Pre or Audio Research Ls2
The Classe preamp is a little on the dark side and should tame your brightness problem. The tradeoff however is you will loose some of the tube realism that the ARC provides. You may want to experiment with some different tubes in your ARC preamp;...
Kora Hermes- What valves do owners recommend?
I prefer the Tesla tubes over Sovtek.
Opinions on Mcintosh MC-2500 Amp from the 1980s
I loved the sound of this amp; one of Mac's greater achievements.
MBL 1611D
I would rate it to be one of the best DACs out there; MBL is great equipment. The 24/196 is a bit more refined over the 24/96 as might be expected.
Dietech Platinum interconnect
I had heard they are no longer in business. I listened to them several years ago and felt they were pretty good for that time period. The newer interconnects on the market would easily outperform them.
PS Audio Lab Speaker Cable?
I listened to the PS Audio speaker cable. It wasn't bad but it would not influence me to switch from the Purist Audio speaker cable I am currently using.
JBL S412 speakers: Opinions Needed
I would try to pick these up if you can get them at a reasonable price. They go very well with low wattage tube gear. Absolute Sound is right; you will love them.
WASATCH ULTAMA For 4000 / Any Experience?
The ULTAMA are not bad cables but I'm keeping my Purist Audio Design which I prefer hands down. By the way, Audio Research tube gear and ProAc speakers make for a great combination. However, Kimber 8TC has always sounded a little bright and thin t...
Krell Mono 350M Vs. Mark Levinson Mono 33H
The Krell is an incredible amp, but for sheer musicality I'd probably choose the Levinson. I think the Levinson is also a bit more transparent.
Stereophile looses Jonathan Scull
Jonathan will be greatly missed at Stereophile. I always enjoyed reading his equipment reviews and articles on tweeks.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
I like Soft Touch "Bumpers" by Waxman. These are feet that stick to the underside of your equipment and sound exceptionally good. A package of 12 Bumpers runs about $2 and can be purchased at Walmart.
Want to buy - Need help and opinions
I would check out the Purist Audio "Elementa". It's their entry level cable but is exceptional for what it cost.
