Speaker Suggestions
With your particular amp I would go with the Monitor Audio Gold GR60 and matching FB212 subwoofer.
Joan Osborn sounding good.
Hey Tireguy - Actually the only reason I recognized her was because I always see her CD "Relish" in the used CD bin. Hope that snow you have up there melts off soon.
Mods for DYNA ST-70, What do you think??
I have modified several ST-70s over the years and the only stock parts I keep are the chassis, transformers, choke, and bias pots. Everything else (RCAs, quadcap, binding posts, etc.) should be replaced with quality parts. I have replaced the 7199...
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
inpepinnovations@aol.com - When you say all you have to do is start tweaking to correct a problem this doesn't tell me very much. Could you be more specific?
Audiophile's New Year Resolutions?
My wish for the new year is to hopefully land a job (on second thought though it is nice being around the house all day just listening to music).
Happy New Year to AudiogoN and AudiogoN Users
Happy New Year to everyone here at Audiogon. May 2003 be a prosperous and healthful year for you all.
Best device for adjusting cartridge overhang.
Twl - Thanks very much for recommending the Turntable Basics model. I will be sure to check that one out.
Best device for adjusting cartridge overhang.
Sdcampbell - Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations regarding products available to aid in the adjustment of cartridge overhang.
Has anyone tried SET tubes amps with maggie 1.6's
On second thought the latest Magnepan speakers, which includes the 1.6, are more efficient due to the lighter and faster mylar diaphram. Also the 4 ohm load will double the power of a SET amplifier. If the SET amp sounds good I'd say go for it.
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
Pbb - I think audiophiles like a dead quiet amp because we don't listen to loud music all the time. I enjoy quiet passages and they are not as pleasing when you can hear the sound of the amp over the music.
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
S7horton - I thought about that also but I don't think it's the source because I have another integrated tube amp and I can hear it from my listening chair with no music playing. I am using the same exact CD player as I use with the Antique Sound ...
Need an integrated for sensitive speakers - Help
I use an Antique Sound Lab MG-SI15DT single-ended integrated amp. It is the quietest amplifier I have ever encountered. With no music playing you can put your ear right up to the speaker and hear nothing but dead silence.
The best speaker you ever heard?
Avantgarde Unos. I'm still saving up to be able to buy a pair someday.
Anyone ever have claims for damage with UPS?
Anyone who ships items UPS does so at their own risk. You can be assured that they will drop or throw the box (possibly more then once) from at least waist height. I recommend packing items very carefully and if possible double boxing. If you don'...
Worst speakers at Stereophile show
I wasn't at the show but there are a lot of things that can make speakers sound bad. Bad room acoustics, poor setup, poor source or front end, wrong power amp for that particular speaker. One of the biggest things that makes speakers sound bad is ...
