Always on ?
my Accuphase pre takes ~30 hours warmup to sound its' best. The amp seems less sensitive to sonic changes as it warms up, however I leave both pieces powered on full time (as for all solid state). Tubes I do not leave on full time, unless a standb...
Surge protective outlets?
Is there any reason this type of outlet should not be usedYou have made a good choice for your application. MOV protection is built into these outlets, connected in parallel to the line, so there is no degradation of surge impedance which would c...
McIntosh vs. Accuphase
the Accuphase would excel at bass control over the Mac. this is due to Mc's use of output autoformers which degrades damping factor (as seen in the spec's). I've auditioned amps from both: Accuphase is significantly more musical.
nuvistors for Musical Fidelity NuVista CD player
Researching my hardcopy archives I believe you're correct; they issued certificates along with each player qualifying original owners for a replacement nuvistor pair. Thanks for your replies I'll keep trying Signalpath.
Good power cord vs Killer power cord?
Hi Warren I use a Virtual Dynamics Nite connecting my dedicated line to an Audio Magic Stealth XXX (the "lowest impedance" cable choice should be used there) which is a very heavy gauge cord having a high current capability. Then I have my 'killer'...

Accuphase A-30 or P-3000 for Klipschorns?
Greetings newmember Newmont: while I've not heard either of your amp choices paired with my Belles, I have always preferred dynamics & headroom so I'd probably opt for the higher power amp. "You don't need a lot of power" I guess that depends ...

bass problem in a sailboat
a small Bazooka cylinder-shaped active car-type sub might work out for you; they don't cost a whole lot. One model isolates & sums two-channel line-level inputs driving a single cone via an integral amp. I think their larger model handles the ...

One Chicago area storefront dealer (who also deals via mailorder) & typically has a large used inventory of worthwhile items is Holm Audio. Mike Holm is easygoing & pleasant to deal with.

cary slp-98L vs bat vk3i
I was very disappointed with the Cary SLP98L but haven't compared with a BAT. However a Golden Tube SEP2 made the Cary sound like trash. The Cary was just awful with stock tubes; I never did try any upgrade tubes; resold it immediately. ymmv
Rarest Brands for Sale on 'Gon

bryston warm up time
15 minutes is nothing: 30 hours is nominal warmup to attain thermal stabilization. Leave the amp on all the time for best sound characteristic & longest service life.
