Introspective of this forum: "Does the Audiophile Community Have a Promlem?" I Say yes!!! Just my 2 cents. I don’t have any reason to conflict with anyone here, as I know I don’t have the range of knowledge and experiences that many other members have. I just hope to learn what I can and apply what I can to improve my budding audiophil...
Dang it, I'm Deaf.... @larsman, I thought tinnitus was ringing in the ears. I haven’t had ringing, just the hiss. The hissing can be tinnitus too?
Dang it, I'm Deaf.... My hearing is fairly good, but when the room is very quiet, I hear a hiss- type of sound like white noise. I only hear the hiss when it is very quiet — I turn on the TV or music and I don’t notice it so much. I was thinking maybe this is just a ...
What say you? My thinking is the same as a few others here: Everything depends upon your budget and balancing the quality of various components and cables. A $2,000 cable might sound better than a cheaper cable (one would hope!), but it makes no sense to use ...
A decent integrated amp under 2K ... Maybe consider one of the Audiolab integrateds — 6000a at 50 watts per channel, 8 ohms, 75 at 4 ohms; if you need more power, the 8300a at 75 watts/ch. They have positive reviews.
Listening to music I don’t particularly like The closest I come to the OP’s situation is that I listen to different music when in my car than when listening on my home system. In the car, I prefer uptempo and hard rock. In my home, I prefer easier listening and some genres that I would oth...
What were the radio stations of your youth that helped you on your music/audio journey? During the 1970’s, the University of Dayton (Ohio) had a student-run station, call letters WVUD, at 99.9 FM. Every weeknight from 7-8 PM, they had a program called “Wax Museum” when they would play an entire new album of music. The difference was ...
Is this a New Game being played now? The first purchase I made was with a guy that preferred PayPal for payment. He waited until the payment cleared and then I went to pick it up. I haven’t sold anything yet, but that sounds like a safe process. That, or a certified check or money...
Tiny bridges everywhere, but why? @onhwy61 I am also guilty of the jumbled mess of cables in my system. Every cord or cable has a purpose, so how do you arrange things nice and neat when you have something like 30 cables running every which direction? Especially when the space y...
What do audiophiles do in their cars? Listening while driving is different than listening at home. I prefer to listen loud in the car and quieter at home. In the car is the only time I can stand heavy metal; at home is when I can listen to bluegrass or folk music. Equipment in the ca...
I agree with Keef @tgilg, And not for the better.@dadork 1+
$2000 Tektons, which one for my use? Another option —bookshelf rather than floor speakers — is KEF LS50. They are highly regarded and would pair with your sub. Would need stands if not on shelf. Just saw new pair for less than $1700. Note: I have not personally heard these speaker...
Is The FM tuner obsolete? I hope to continue listening to OTA radio for the 15-20 more years I could be alive. Neither of my older cars has internet capabilities and I always play the radio (Classic Rock mostly) while driving. At home, there are two local stations I enjo...
You can go home again In some respects, a revisit to something I enjoyed decades ago leaves me wondering why I thought it was so special. I suppose we are prone to romanticizing the past — our youth — and have fonder memories than realities. Just my take.
