Truly Stunning Vinyl Album
80's kid here---I have an original copy of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome' on vinyl. Truly amazing production thanks to legendary producer Trevor Horn. I sat down one evening and listened to it again from beginning to end...
Dealers of High End Equipment
We have a fairly new hifi store in my city and the owner couldn't be nicer---he has loaned me accessories and components to audition at home and has given me generous discounts on items I've purchased. Years ago we had a couple of decent stores bu...
Listening to what we Like Instead of what we have to
@megabyyte totally agree with the jazz stuff. The freeform jazz annoys me to death. LOL! We have very similar tastes in music though. As for speakers, I would also try the Revival Atalante 3s---they're about $2700. With stands around $3100. They a...
A Noob Asking About Power Cables
Hey--the NAD C 3050 (Crutchfield) integrated amp has HDMI. You could start with something like Blue Jeans cables---they get great reviews and are reasonable. Or maybe Audioquest Evergreen cables. You could also update your speaker cables as well. ...
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
I still have 100% of my vinyl and about 95% of my CD collection. I sold off a few CDs years ago knowing I would never listen to them again (mostly CD singles). I stream about 95% of the time as well. I still have a ton of DJ only/promo CDs that I...
Greg Kihn
MTV played 'Jeopardy' in heavy rotation back then--RIP.
Seeking Hi-Fi DJ for Daughter's Wedding.
Hi---I DJ'd years ago and knew a few local mobile DJs. We mostly used good quality DJ equipment like Gemini and Numark. JBLs are good party speakers. I remember going clubbing back in the day and I always liked to know what the 'good' systems had ...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
ELO -- Time from 1981. Excellent concept album.
Audio Cables: All the Same?
I have done A/B tests with cheap and expensive cables (ICs) with friends who are not audiophiles---they don't know squat about high-end audio. And every time, they can hear recognizable difference in sound preferring the expensive vs the standard ...
Amp showing its age?
I have a Denon PMA-757 integrated amp from 1985 that's still going strong. I had it serviced a few years ago, cleaning, replacing a few bulbs but that's it. Sounds great. It's powering a pair of Canton Karat 200s from 1986.
Speaker candidates/suggestions
I was able to audition (at home) the Totems but unfortunately they're going to be too small for my main room---I may try them in a smaller room. Hoping the Vandy's will work out.
Speaker candidates/suggestions
@iad Thanks---good to know. I have a chance to audition them next month when I travel out of town. I found a dealer so I can't wait!
Speaker candidates/suggestions
Thanks @mesch -- that's good to know. I saw on another post that Davis Belles also likes Fritz speakers. The Sugden class A is sublime.
Speaker candidates/suggestions
Thanks @hilde45 --- I'll check it out. I've seen really good reviews for the Carbons. The Totems get great reviews as well but apparently they love power so I'm not so sure my amps (particularly the Sugden) will be enough? On Totem's website the r...
All Hail the meek --yet mighty – NODE 2i
Totally agree here. I have a Bluesound Node in my second system and it works flawlessly every time. Easy to use, affordable, sounds great and takes up very little real estate. I've been curious though to hear the new-ish Bluesound Node X.
