Anyone heard of Powervar conditioners?
I have used one on my computers for over ten years. I tried it on my low power Preamp, CD player and CATV box. The results were extremely clean, but there was noticable audio and video dynamic range compression. It did benefit by upgrading its sto...

Mondial Magic Splitter aka video ground bar prob
I have been using a Mondial Magic for over 10 years. It completely removes all CATV ground-loop related problems. Try one out, you may be able to remove all your other grounding counter-measures. The cost/benefit ratio is enormous.
Help with inverted phase Newbie Question
I have a phase inversion switch on my DAC, which can be controlled with the remote. I can hear a difference every time I switch polarity on any CD, but many times I cannot truly tell which is "correct". Yes, I can hear polarity, and I believe it i...
Can sibilance be eliminated?
Yes. I would start with power conditioning and resonance control. There is a wealth of info in the thread archives. Digital playback does not have to be annoying.
Does your system's sound change with the weather?
Air pressure, temperature and humidity all affect the density of air. The density of air affects the speed of sound and the sound pressure level. I don't recall the equations, but I remember they are not trivial, because all 4 factors are inter-re...
Purpose of triangular placement of cones/spikes?
In 20+ years of listening, I have always preferred 3 feet instead of 4. In fact, I have yet to listen to any component where 4 feet sounds better than 3. I also prefer the solid brass cones of Walker Audio over any other material including, alumin...
Different HDTV signals?
I agree with Darrylhifi. I have also noticed on FOX and ESPN, many times a standard definition telecast is broadcast on their HDTV channel without being reformatted with bars on the sides. The image ends up being flattened. The Indy car race from ...
I have serious AC questions. Help. Powervar?
Go with the Powervar. Mine has been in continuous service for 15 years now.
strange sound
A timed outlet is not the same as using the power switch. The amp may discharge properly when using its power switch. Try it manually and see what happens.
Cable TV High Definition converter
I have had the Motorola 5100 for 6 months now. I have not noticed the need to add additional processing to the HD signal. It is excellent. The HD signal might be compressed, but movies on HBO in HD are equal to, or better than, viewing them on DVD...
Problems with Lutron Light Dimmers causing a Buzz
Hey Shutterbug, Blueswan here. Bought your A3s and love them! I know Tube Research doesn't recommend it, but you might want to consider a power conditioner. I use a Tara Labs AD/10B. Everything is plugged into it. (I can plug in and run a vacuum c...
Does such a preamp exist?
The Pass Labs Aleph P has variable gain and balanced inputs and outputs.

Clean power & ground issue?
Make sure your outlets are up to code first! Ungrounded outlets (and reversed hot/neutral) will not pass inspection and like Jfrech says, are potentially unsafe. Once you are up to code, then worry about power conditioning.
