Classical Vinyl Series
You will hate me for this - but each one starts with distracting pops, crackles or a deep grumbling noise which of course I just don’t get in the Qobuz version I listen to. It’s been so long since I listened to vinyl I’d forgotten about it.  I kno...
Grounding with a Earth box?
“Why use our Ground Box’s ?You will get an improvement in dynamic’s, a lower noise floor and more natural flow in the sound.”Is there no Advertising Standards Authority to challenge this sort of thing?(Not so much the dodgy claims. I’m much more c...
The Tragic Decline of Music Literacy (and Quality)
n80 - thank you from us all. And yes, what a blow Covid is. Our local youth orchestra gave my daughter one of her passions (sax) and her friend her career (she went on to the Royal Academy to study flute) and another her entry into the armed force...
The Tragic Decline of Music Literacy (and Quality)
How about we don’t spend another $1000 on a very marginal sound quality gain, and sponsor our local school band/orchestra with it instead? If we all bought a kid an instrument instead of buying the next bit of kit to install in our pampered, anti-...

Article: "Spin Me Round: Why Vinyl is Better Than Digital"
So, you can make a digital recording of what comes out of the phono stage, and then play that recording through the same system.  If the ear can’t tell the difference then it would seem that the digital format can accurately capture and reproduce ...
Can anybody be a speaker designer?
Where there is no hazard to public health, unregulated is good. It means the customers can get what they want by forming a market for it.  A regulated business produces what the regulator wants. Kenjit - has a market formed around the speakers you...
Name a few albums which helped determine your musical tastes
I got ELO’s Out of the Blue for my 10th birthday.  I listen to Porcupine Tree now because of that gift. And ELO of course...
Will this speaker work
I’ve a Quad Vena II integrated amp. It has phono inputs, but when you get bored of those same LPs on your turntable it has a built-in streamer. And coax and optical digital inputs if you want them in the future. It does Airplay, and Bluetooth if y...
Any way to listen to wav or high bit files with anything approaching audiophile sound?
It is a matter of some dispute whether there is any audible difference between a CD’s red book and “hi res” files. In blind tests, very few people indeed can tell any difference. So for the purpose of a project, I wouldn’t fret. Question - if some...
Filling a Room with Music
I built some Woden Avebury full range back loaded horns for my lounge. I too wanted room-filling sound so the family can enjoy enveloping fatigue-free listening - and these work perfectly. Just spent most of the day playing Radio Paradise through ...
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
Perkri - given that @cd never mentioned death certificates, I’m not sure why you mentioning them negates the suggestion that hospital payments are higher for COVID-related activity. Maybe the poster was not referring to death certification, but to...
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
There is a scale. “Polite, considered, respectful, and honest” is what I’m sure we all aim for.  “Politically correct” has been coined for use about speakers who it is thought are trying too hard to address (an often imaginary) harm they think lan...
Any Bluesound Node2 owners
My set up is Node2i and, yes, a power lead upgrade which I’m pretty sure made a difference (but I hate to admit it); and a Khadas tone board as a DAC.  When I switch the Node out for a Raspberry Pi plus a Allo One HAT, the Roon experience is the s...
BlueSound Stinks(!), anyone?
Another happy Node 2i user here. I have it connected directly to my mesh with an ethernet cable, and control it through Roon. Excellent. No Android devices in the household.  The BlueOs controller and Roon is all on Apple gear. 100% reliable.
