Speaker shock absorbers
I have never tried these, but...Meade and other telescope manufacturers make isolation pads designed to go under tripod feet, sold in 3 piece sets. Lots of industrial isolation pads available if you google.

speakers for a smaller listening room
You might end up going to a smaller set of speakers rolling off before deep bass and adding a sub. Sometimes you can "tune out" the biggest problem somewhere between your speakers and the sub(s). This might be your only option in some rooms for ge...

Little Red Dot on Totem Hawks
Totem speakers sound too good, why the chicanery ? Have to admit, I just wanted to use the word chicanery. Now, what about those beaks? Acoustic sculpture? Shipping ballast?
Review: NAD 3120 Amplifier
My first amp was a 3020. It was stolen some 20+ years ago. The thieves carried through the woods my NAD, my Thorens, and my color tv. The bright side was that they lugged that heavy-ass tv away, and it was broken beyond repair! And they decided my...
The best tweeter design
The High Emotion tweeter sure looks like the now defunct Linaeum.
The best tweeter design
Much cricism has been made about the dispersion of ribbon tweeters. I have a pair of inexpensive 5" monitors with "isodynamic" ribbon tweeters. They are placed about 8' apart, with they're backs on the same plane as the widescreen that is between ...
Buying new, but old speakers
I've got a pair of speakers that are over 30 years old that work just fine today. While they have "pleated" surrounds, the rubber surrounds on the Castles will be fine. Still not sure that's the best bang for the buck, but I totally relate to your...
Buying new, but old speakers
The surrounds are rubber, and I'm not sure I would be too worried about the crossover caps. The real question is, are these speakers the best $900 option? I have heard the Howards but not Avons, I don't doubt that they sound nice. I might be swaye...
Vintage Thorens turntable -Good or Bad?
How much you paid for it certainly has everything to do with the answer to your question. Unless you paid too much, or something is wrong with it, you are not wasting your money. The TD126 was a fine sounding table in its day, and you would probab...
"NEWEST'" Favorite album
Eileen Ivers "Crossing the Bridge" is another cd that I keep finding myself loading into my player. Sweet acoustic to hot electric fusion. Very cool mix of Celtic fiddle and all sorts of styles and influences, some interesting guest players.
"NEWEST'" Favorite album
I like everything I have ever heard from Los Lobos, so it dosnt have to sound like "Kiko" to interest me. Again, I recommend the "Live at the Filmore" dvd, really captures them live. Another cd I have been spinning a lot lately is "Zombie Pimp Cow...
Overpowering Speakers
Don't worry about your 300wpc amp powering your 100wpc speakers. You do not have to match the numbers. As stated above, it is much more likely to overdrive a low powered amp to clipping and damage a tweeter. You will hear the strain when over driv...
"What the HECK were they thinking" Thread.
I liked Marilyn Manson's cover of the Eurithmics "Sweet Dreams", at least the video where he rides a big-ass hog (animal, not a Harley) is hilarious. I like the Joe Cocker version of "Cry Me a River" (Leon Russel arrangement). When an artist or p...
