My "ah-ha" moment with NOS tubes...
I don't have a lot of experience with tubes, tube rolling. This is one of the things that makes people reluctant to try tubes. Also one of the things that makes a forum such as this so damn valuable.
Up and coming band: Davina and the Vagabonds
Forgive me if this post repeats. What you find on the web gives you an idea of what the Flying Neutrinos are about. I have listened to the cd "Hotel Child" on a number of systems, and it always sounds great. This includes one that seems to accentu...
Up and coming band: Davina and the Vagabonds
Just watched some videos, really enjoyed them. You might want to give "Hotel Child" by Ingrid Lucia and the Flying Neutrinos a listen. Not quite as bluesy, but very authentic sounding, well recorded. Looks like the tour won't be near me, but I wil...
A warning to all about HUGE Subwoofers
"And The Walls Came Tumbling Down"They had acoustic weapons thousand of years ago.
Zappa question
I played "Road Ladies" from Chunga's Revenge for my friend, a great Jimmy Page admirer. After hearing the blues licks he instantly began taking Frank seriously, became a fan. That was 37 years ago and I'm listening to that song as I write.I love a...
not sure about pre out
Also a nice way to hook up a subwoofer.
Phoebe Snow has died.
Great voice and talented singer. no matter that your friends could not appreciate her. She did some nice work with Dave Grusin. Worth digging up and giving her a good listen. Sad news.
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes?
Almarg's suggestion about headphones may apply here. Anthem says the phone output is "in parallel with main path". I take this to mean it is the preamp circuit. Many components that offer phone output use a separate cheap circuit which would not r...
Help with Michell Techo Weight
When I was a kid, my dad taped quarters on top of the headshell to balance the tonearm. Why do I think I'm not helping?
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes?
You say "hardness", can you be more specific? It's hard to determine if you have electronic or an acoustics problem. Throw some blankets up and listen. If that helps you can experiment with different approaches. Sometimes you can put big plants, b...
New Salk Loudspeaker- Soundscape JR
Snopro- nice system, but you forgot to list your Celestron SCT. By the way, the Lyrids are peaking tonight.
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes?
I would try decent (not necessarily expensive) analog cables instead of the Toslink first.
NSMT Speakers?
I auditioned a pair of NSM floorstanders (don't know the model)a long time ago. They sounded very good, had good bass for bring so small. I wouldn't count them out because of the over the top sales claims.
"God Bless the Child" on Idol?
I thought the duet with Casey and Haley showcased what Haley does best. She should take note and find the right songs. Country boy Scotty is ok, but still don't get him as a front runner.(?)
A New Believer
I think perhaps that Rok2id is the opposite end of the spectrum from the 'believers in all tweaks'. There are those who might be so convinced that they will spend big $$$ on snake oil, deceiving themselves that they hear what isn't there. On the o...
