Newbie Setup Question - Digital You need a really good DAC and a good music server device with a solid SPDIF/COAX output like a Squeezebox or Transporter. Alternatively, a specialized DAC with a perfected USB interface like one of the new Ayre or PS Audio units that are coming o...
Is there a point to having a transport? Well you have to take this on a case by case basis. It depends on how you implement this. The general answer is yes, a computer can replace a really good transport in two ways. First, it can send files to a dedicated music server device like a Squ...
dCS Puccini Clock Arthur I should probably leave this question to people who have actually fully auditioned Puccini at their home. I'm not THAT familiar with it. My intuition from hearing it is that it is not quite as good Delius + stack and certainly not as good a...
skipping There is a buffer in Foobar's settings menu that you can increase. That might help.
Audio Research Ref: CD8 I agree with Chadeffect. The dCS gear that upsamples to DSD is really that good.
Itunes Error Correction Steve N.,Funny you should mention EAC, because I just started using it a few days ago. I can't say with certainty that EAC sounds better than iTunes with correction, but I do know that in secure mode, discs that are in not so great shape that gene...
dCS Puccini Clock Elberoth2- I haven't made an actual comparison with the Squeezebox yet because the U-Clock is not yet available. My dealer had a "CES" demo and they were actually still breaking it in when I heard it. The U-Clock was actually being fed by the Pucc...
Itunes Error Correction I hate to revive a thread that is like over a year old, but you should know that I experienced a similar problem ripping discs with iTunes. At first I thought my CD drive was busted so I had it replaced. No change. I wound up updating all of my sy...
dCS Puccini Clock I don't have experience with it but my dealer said that the cables do not have to be expensive.
Audiophile USB to PCM To original poster: your ship has come in. Check out the new dCS Puccini u-clock which is both a separate word clock and asynchronous USB to PCM converter. For your setup it is probably the best device on the market, and if I understand correctly ...
What happened to Plastic CD Cases? One more point for hard drive based storage. I really like the cases that SACDs come in though--they seem a little more durable.
Transporter vs Ayre CX-7e Ayre is coming out with a USB dac for under $2000 that is going to be very good. Asynchronous USB seems to be where the industry is headed. I am willing to bet the USB DAC is as good as the CX-7e.
dCS Puccini Clock Sorry what I meant to say was that asynchronous USB allows Puccinni to override the computer's clock signal. Basically it tells the computer that it is the clock.
dCS Puccini Clock The clock is more than just a clock, however. The biggest selling point in my opinion is that it unlocks music server functionality because it has a highly perfected asynchronous USB interface. This would allow any USB capable computer to serve as...
What comes after CD`s? Actually based on what I saw of the dCS Puccini clock this weekend, the future is asynchronous USB DACs. Ayre is coming out with one for less than $2,000 soon. USB seems to be the big thing at CES this year. |
