Zu Soul Superfly
I'm thinking of spending $xyz on a second system. I see the Superfly being good at $1500 PP. Is it better than that and what is the price point of the Essence? People paid $5K for the Essence and it sucked and the latest price for the Essence is $...
How close to the real thing?
To build on what Timlub says about musicians preferring different strings, etc. I know a luthier who flies around the world to choose all his own sustainable wood stock. He looks closely at different internal bracing for different sounds and playe...
Avalon Acoustics vs Wilson Audio
I've heard both extensively but the Wilson's more often. Avalon would be my choice. Much more musical with great timbre and timing. The Wilson speakers are fast but dry and analytical, what I would want in a hearing aid. Both seem like great compan...
JMR Offrande Supreme V2 vs GMA Calypso
JMR's are awesome they just have no real support or marketing money in the US. Bob does a great job but needs JMR to stop going to concerts and start supporting an ad budget. Extremely musical speaker that is still very clean and transparent. Neve...
How close to the real thing?
I have friends that perform in the Boston symphony, a best friend that builds guitars for some of the top classical and flamenco performers around the world, friends that dance the clubs in London and Manhattan. None of them are at all interested ...
How close to the real thing?
Last time I listened to a live concert on my system I stood on my couch with a cigarette lighter for the encore. The next day my wife asked why there were burns on the ceiling. Oops.

What's with the hot brands of 2002? Take some dramamine.
Rush fans on the board ??
Moving Pictures. Saw Rush a couple times in the early 90's. Awesome concerts.
How close to the real thing?
All we need is five guys, earplugs, blindfold and a big box, like a Wilson crate, and a hand-truck. Also a Budget rental truck or even a pickup would work fine.We lug the guy around to few different venues over the coarse of a couple nights. We un...
Christmas Tree Echo Control
Two trees and a menorah tweak is where it's at this holiday season. Silver menorah if you can swing it, nine-branch, not seven. Wait till you hear the effect of the presents piling up in the corners. Ah the holidays.
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
I had an amp sent to ARC for repair. The work was under warranty but they would not do the work unless they could re-tube it. They made $500 off a $.05 resistor. I get that they don't want problems that bad tubes could cause but that was not cheap...
Speakers on carpet or bare floor?
What Stanwal said is helpful. I don't know much about glass walls but it sounds like other frequencies may be more prominent to you now. Try to recreated the room boundaries you havd before, like similar placement from back and side walls etc. Adj...
Speakers on carpet or bare floor?
Have you played with tilting them upwards or placing them in a different position? The carpet probably has less to do with it than the room dimensions. It seems like you are dealing with different overall acoustics more than speaker height.Grow so...
Speakers on carpet or bare floor?
You might find that nuts or balls sound best...sorry, I have that juvenile thing too. What about spikes, or I had great success with symposium svelts, although they will run around $350 used. I also have some of those square cork things with the r...
How close to the real thing?
Live performances have a different dimensionality based on seating, hall ambiance, and all the little nuances that make it "real" to some. You can't catch it all in a recording. A guy that trips up the stairs, or a couple giggling a few rows back....
