Have you heard the Goldring Ethos Cartridge? To add to the praise, in the current (April 2024) issue of Stereophile, Herb Reichert has a nice write up of the Ethos in his column that is very positive in every respect.
Copper vs. Silver tonearm wire Hi Raul, At your suggestion I visited the Audio Note UK website. Acquiring the material would be easy. Then I spoke with my dealer. The dealer is trusted and important because I am no longer competent to perform the work myself. With age my ha...
Anybody using the last record preservative Let me do a little myth busting here. There is a guy who wears a chemist smock and hawks ultrasonic record cleaners. Any of you who have been to a trade show know who I am talking about. Anyway, he scrubs and scrubs until all the white gunk sto...
SUT With a Manley Steelhead RC? I happen to have a Bob's Devices 10x SUT sitting here gathering dust. I am not inclined to sell it, but I would be happy to let you borrow it to try. You would still need to buy another set of phono cables and they should be a match to the ones ...
AR-XB. Is it worth a new motor? I have been sitting on the fence on this thread. I used to have a C26 and a 2100 and can't let you dangle in the breeze. The AR turntable is an enigma. It was a brilliant, though flawed design. With the 3 point suspension it was copied first b...
Comparison of sonic qualities of some tonearms Raul, I am pinching myself as I ask this question. My HW40 arm needs to be rewired. I was going to take it to VPI and let them do it, but should I reconsider? You are right that the wire I installed in my GAE was Zavfino. I do not want to do ...
Comparison of sonic qualities of some tonearms One last comment: Unipivots are inferior to double gimbals in my experience.
Comparison of sonic qualities of some tonearms Oh I forgot another significant arm in my life. A Rabco SL8E. This was mounted on a Thorens TD125MkII and worked well. It was a tangental tracking arm, actually it was always hunting, but It lifted at the end of play and it was reliable.
Comparison of sonic qualities of some tonearms A very interesting discussion indeed. Arms definitely matter. In my opinion a lot. I am amused by Raul's comment that all arms should have silver wire. Raul is a man who knows his stuff and several years ago, when I first bought my SL1200GAE he...
Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz and Blues, Awesome! Thanks for sharing. It really does look like a nice book. I was disappointed to discover how expensive it would be to buy one considering how long it has been out of print. I wish some publisher would get interested in a new edition. My New Gr...
VPI Prime Sig/Lyra Delos / Feedback ...help! It seems from your description that the Lyra is the source of the feedback. If you are comfortable switching cartridges, try substituting in the Hana to the new TT and see if the problem goes away. If so that tells you that the Lyra is just a mu...
Vinyl rips - still worth it? There is a lot of music on old records that is not available otherwise. Plus you can create you own mix. I say go for it and have fun.
Technics SL-1200GAE or VPI HW-40 or …? I agree that the VPI Prime was more fussy than the Technics because I had a Prime before I traded it for the HW40. The HW40 is not fussy at all, however, and is just as set it and forget it as the Technics.
Technics SL-1200GAE or VPI HW-40 or …? It seems to me that Technics makes a model much more expensive and perhaps competitive with the VPI in their 1000 series. Truthfully there is not as much difference in performance between these TTs as you would think.
Technics SL-1200GAE or VPI HW-40 or …? I believe I can help you with your query. My two principle TTs are an HW40 and an SL1200GAE. They sit side by side in my principle system and are in daily use when I am in my primary residence in South Florida. Both TTs have been with me for se... |
