SACD player for CD
I used a SCD 1 for several months and sold it. Compared to my Meridian 508-24, it just wasn't as good-period. SACD sounded ok but I was not going to rush out with a new format. It messed with female voices a little and just didn't sound as liquid ...
Is there a cable that can warm up my sound?
Try Cardas.
Inputs Please Creek 4330 mk1 or Arcam Alpha One?
Go with the Creek.
Vandy 5a's ?
I agree with Sdcampbell. Usually improvements are in the refinement area. I'm sure they will make an excellent speaker better but I would doubt they will fall in the major arena. I would say in the area of the difference between the 3A and the 3A ...
Looking for spkr suggestions
I think if I was going to play a lot of rock as my main venue, I would scratch off the Meadowlarks and Vandersteen's. The 2Ce Signature is a great sounding speaker in my opinion and better by a good bit than the Kestrel having owned both. However,...
Using Aux vs CD input on Audible Illusions preamp
Audible did add a remote volume to their new L-2 preamp. The price also jumped up to $2495! I was hoping at some point that an upgrade for the 3A would add this also. I noticed its price has gone to $2795. You're right, it would be nice. I do love...
Speaker tweak
Couple your speakers to the floor as best as possible. Spikes should penetrate to something solid under any carpet. As mention above, sand is the way to go. It also puts more pressure on the spikes.
What is a "servo" sub and any advantages?
Servo's respond to an error that has already occured. Then it corrects this error according to the designers preference. This is in and of itself not a bad thing. However, it does create distortions of its own during the correction process that ma...
Using Aux vs CD input on Audible Illusions preamp
The CD input uses a resistor in each channel to cut "Digital brightness" from low cost CD players according to the manual supplied with the Audible. I found it to roll the highs just a touch. The Aux input is purer in as much as there are no resis...
I finally learned why powercords make a difference
I have to agree with Aball. There are some flaws in the thinking here. You cannot expect a power cord to go against basic electrical concepts, I don't care how sophisticated it is. Also, trash that is picked up on the line before the "Official" po...
Best speaker new or used 2,000 for ROCK?
Find a pair of NHT 3.3's or 2.9's. If rock is what you want, these will rock with the best of them.
Running a cdplayer directy to an amp impedence q
One word of advice as a past owner of the CL15. While it will drive most if not all amps fine, the digital volume control has a tendency to limit dynamic range as you reduce the level. I found it to be much better going through a preamp and lettin...
Rating of transformer of NAD 306 Amplifier
I would contact an NAD service center and discuss your situation with them. They may sell you a replacement transformer. I doubt they will supply you with any technical information and I think it would be wise to replace it with an OEM part. You c...
McCormack DNA-2 DLX balanced input impedance
Call Mccormack @ smcaudio.com and ask him. He will tell you what you need to do and go from there.
Audible Illusions Modulus L1
The L-1 is exactly like the M3A. There is a set of resistors in the input circuit of the CD input that, according to Art Ferris, is suppose to reduce the harshness of lower cost CD players. Use any other input but this one for best sound. I believ...
