Active shielding. What is?
The shielding in this cable makes a complete circuit from top to bottom. It has a wire that runs the length of the cable and comes back to source. Anytime power travels through a wire, it creates a magnetic field. I'm still back to the question of...
PC that wont change my amp's personality ?
Why do you want to try something that you don't want to change anything?
Whole house voltage regulation
With some of the amps, I would think 114 volts is a touch low. I'd be happy with 117-120v. Although, unless you are running the amp awfully hard, I doubt that you would notice the difference. Wonder why they picked this voltage?
Which CD player to buy, Sony, Meridian, Theta, or?
Out of the players listed, the Meridian is a no brainer. It is still as good as most players today. It was well designed when it came out and it is still well designed in the face of newer competion that talks the talk but can't walk the walk.
Active shielding. What is?
Anyone know, since Synergistic uses a wall wart, what effect the AC ripple that is not filtered out would have on the internal conductors? Seems to me, unless it is highly filtered and regulated, the contaminated DC would be like running a low vol...
Major Problems with Aleph Ono
I believe the Creek uses a subsonic rolloff filter which would roll the resonant frequency range off therefore eliminating the rumble. A lot of cheaper components do this so the amp(or preamp) is not overloaded by this resonant rumble.Isolate your...
Arcam FMJ23/DIVA 92 How much better?
Haven't tried that one. You can pick up a used Meridian 508-20 in the $1100-1200 price range. I will say again---it is much better than the Arcams and most any other player in this range.
Major Problems with Aleph Ono
Put the dust cover down and see if the feedback goes away. Then you will know for sure that it is feedback. If it does go away, you will have to mount the turntable in a different location. It can be air borne or vibration borne(through the floor)...
What is a switching power supply for amps and
The Nad amp(s) I refer to used two separate power supplies with separate filter caps and diode bridges. They used a solid state gate that brought the 2cd supply in as needed with its higher voltage. Whatever class it was I don't know but the thing...
What is a switching power supply for amps and
NAD championed this approach way back in the late 70's and on. They use a power supply with two rails(one low voltage and one of higher voltage)off of a multi-tapped transformer. The first power supply carries continuous capabilities and the highe...
Totem Forrest or Vandersteen 3A Sig?
Go with the 3A Signature. The 3A is just a little bit better than the 2ce Sigs. The 3A Signature is in another league. It has to be set up correctly but when done and with the right electronics, it is special.
Question re: Creek 5350SE
Having used a 5350SE, I can say its sonics are excellent. Also, having used a M3A with a McCormack .5 Deluxe and can say that the Creek has a little more smoothness in absolute terms. It is not the M3A's fault but the McCormack is just not quite a...
Cardas Cross speaker cable with Paradigm Ref S-40
I don't really think the Cardas will be bright. It is more of a warm cable compared to most. It has (for lack of a better word) a mellow midrange and bottom end. Some have said the highs actually sound a little rolled off. I personally felt it lac...
Measuring AC phase Question
Purchase a cheap phase polarity meter and check it. These can be bought at Sears, Home depot, etc. They also have a ground orientation mode. Remember, AC has 1 hot leg(usually the black wire), 1 neutral(white) and a ground. The neutral is tied to ...
How does Sony DVP-S9000ES compare to other Sony's?
It really doesn't compare to an SCD-1 or a 777ES! Can't really comment on the other two having not used them. I will suggest that if you are planning to use it exclusively for CD replay, stick with a regular CD(SACD) player. If not and you need DV...
