Tube amp, size and power info........
Agree with Brainwater. Put tubes in a rack and you can bake cookies just like EZ-Bake Ovens. Plus most tube gear is not rack-mountable.Used AR amps come to mind if you are using the DB99's from Von Schwiekert.Good luck!
power amp condition durring dvd playback
I would not worry about it if there is no audible distortion. There could be some sort of subsonic (doubtful) frequency passing through that you can't hear but your amp is reproducing even if your speakers are not.Place a decorative item in front ...
Whole House audio suggestions????
If your home is pre-wired for the Niles keypads then it is unlikely that you have speaker wire in the boxes behind the keypads. you probably have CAT-5 between keypads and the central breakout point where the Niles receiver is located. the speaker...
320bee and NHT SB-3's
I have sold many C320BEE/SB3 combos (magic $999 retail price). They work very well together. The NAD doesn't give out of juice on this relatively inefficent speaker.Woodman's 1.5's (sweet speaker) are a more difficult load to drive. The 1.5's do s...
$10,000 Speaker Recommendations?
If you have a great degree of freedom as far as positioning goes it would be hard to beat the Summit or the Ascent i. The Ascent i has been discontinued which would give you a good deal on them should you be able to find a pair. They are not nearl...
Subwoofers - 1 Martin Logan Depth or 2 Grottos?
The 2WQ, as you have already stated, will not work with your current set-up.THe Grotto (while very good) is not really in the same league as the Depth. What ML calls Balanced Force Tech is really just a way of cancelling out cabinet resonances. It...
upgrade advice for budget-minded beginner
I would second the NAD for a budget integrated. Plus teh 320BEE gives you main-in/pre-out for future amplifier/preamplifier upgrades. Not really the same sound as a tube integrated but a great value no question.
upgrade advice for budget-minded beginner
Sounds like you have a well thought out upgrade path and have done some research. Congratulations on using some of those research skills that got you to college! If you think you might like to try tubes you may want to consider one of the Jolida i...

Power Handling - what's "unclipped programme"
With all speakers I can think of you don't really have to look at the power handling figure. The speaker you have described will work fine attached to a 200 watt power amp. What destroys speakers is clipping. This is when the power amp runs out of...
Good passive subwoofer?
Phase shifts can make a big difference. Without a sub crosover you can shift phase 180 degrees by inverting the polarity at the speaker or amp. Speaker placement is still the most important consideration though. If your room is symetrical and you c...
Best CDs for vocals?

I need some direction
If you already like the Audio Refinement have you considered the YBA line? The Initial will not give you any more power but you could look at something like a Passion 200 or 300 integre. It would be a mighty step up but could very well keep you fr...
Good passive subwoofer?
Even if you will be using a very good pre-pro you may want to invest in a subwoofer crossover so that you can play with things like phase. NHT has one that is not very expensive and should work well.Or you can sell the Adcom and get a good powered...
Von Schweikert VRS/1 subwoofer - thoughts?
I have a pair of VR-1's with a Martin Logan Depth sub. It may seam like overkill but cheap subs do more wrong than right.Audition any new sub before you buy it and use a 10 meter interconnect to move it all around the room (the couple of places yo...
