Advice on how to liquidate system
I recommend auctioning everything.  Set the starting bid at 25% of the MSRP, the market will dictate how much everything is worth.  While your situation may be temporary, you can always build a new system.  Designing a system based on research, fi...
Digital/Etherent Connectivity in the Audiophile World
Old thread but I’ve been thinking about this topic also.  I saw somewhere that Storm Audio is incorporating Dante/ AES67 into their new Evo model.  The promise of a single cable carrying the digital signal and power is very attractive, especially ...
Streaming Services
My MacBook can output an optical signal out of the headphone jack.  There’s a lot of respectable DACs on the used market for reasonable prices, you could get one that handles that optical input signal—Bryston BDA-1 perhaps?  Sending the signal ove...
Why are there so many wooden box speakers out there?
This hobby is ridiculous sometimes, but these threads are entertaining.  Not all speakers are boxes, we have electrostatics and open baffles.  I have rear ported boxes, they sound fine to me.  I’ve had to move them once, the shape was convenient. ...
Is there such a thing as a FOREVER DAC/streamer?
I think good powered speakers are going make all components start to look like relics from the past.  I’ve compared my Sonos internal dac to my mcintosh dac in the integrated to the Bryston bda 1 and it’s really hard for me to tell much of a diffe...
Best audiophile earwax removal system?
@jdm11 “What are the dimensions of the room you plan to clean your ears in? Budget???“ 😂🤣😂 That made my day
Large room with low budget for speakers
Magico A5 looks like it wouldn’t disappoint in the base and they’re under budget at about 25k.  Or you might be able to get into a REL stack and speakers for under 30k.
New Rotel Amp Vs Older Bryston, Krell, or McIntosh
My system shares a lot of similarities with what you're after, check it out in virtual systems.  I like my Mac receiver, lots of remote controlled features.  I also like the sound of my Bryston DAC.  I’m sure whatever you get will sound great.  Pa...
New to hobby: McIntosh D150 w/ McIntosh Amp vs. Rotel Separates
I have a Mcintosh receiver with built in DAC that I enjoyed for many years, but then recently added a Bryston DAC and I really like what it does for the sound.  I agree with @erik_squires that you should consider some other brands also.  But I und...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
A sub-optimal system sounds better than a nagging wife.
I need a subwoofer recomendation
There’s the seldom mentioned Sunfire XTEQ, 8,10, or 12 on the used market…they have EQ and run well in tandem if you end up with 2. Yes this is what I have, and I haven’t compared many, just something else to consider.
Audio nonsense
@fundsgon I think you’re onto something with the SonicAir idea…Perhaps if the air was charged someone could develop a magnetic containment system, or sell an audiophile line of hyperbaric chambers—could be a big hit with the alpine skiing crowd.
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
I read a lot of reviews from people expressing regret waiting so long to get a McIntosh.  So I splurged and made the plunge.  My brother calls it my mid-life -crisis stereo.  Whatever, it sounds great and the blue meters add a little panache to th...
Audio nonsense
We could always take our generators out to the salt flats in Utah and run our systems there, camping in what amounts to an anechoic chamber…who’s with me?
Using luxman DA-250 as a preamp.
Yeah it looks like Luxman included a nice analog line attenuator so that it could be used in exactly this manner.  One word of caution given to those connecting DAC to amp is to check if the volume is controlled in the digital domain.  This approa...
